Title: A visitor from afar & an unusual Guzzi
Post by: johnr on February 01, 2016, 02:20:09 AM
Jeroen (AKA Jay and an occasional contributor here)  is from the Netherlands and came out here to NZ for a year to do an internship. That done he is touring about looking at the place. He turned up at mine a few days back.

He holds a typical Guzzi tool. I should have taken a better pic of his bike. It is a militarised V50. Nato bike.

Access to a garage here was the ideal opportunity for him to deal to a misbehaving transmission.

Reassembly

In the course of all this we visited Hayes Hardware for some stuff. A must do in any case. Jay was particularly taken by the Norman Hayes Engine

This is it. It was built by the firms founder as the result of a bet that he couldn't build a working engine out of scraps he had in his garage.

I had to get a guy in Hayes to start it up to prove to Jay that it worked.

In all, a pleasant encounter.

 Yep doesn't look as though it should does it. Same with Richard Pierce's airplane, but it flew. I've seen proof.

Classic seeing that motor run John after seeing it in the flesh.

Hope you were able to get Jay in to the NZ way of having a good cuppa tea. :thumb:

I see a final drive box in bits. Need anything? I have spares. In fact I have a spare box plus spares.
Cheers Kev.

He was entirely amenable to that.  He was even reasonably impressed with my instant coffee, which he reckoned tasted like coffee!
I believe he is in Christchurch now Muzz. Keep an eye out for him.

All done Kev.
The housing remains a bit beat up where the bolts screw into it, but Jay seems happy enough with the outcome and says he has a spare back in the Netherlands.

Given the amount of riding he has planned before he gets back there though I reckon he should take you up on your offer if we can locate him. I believe he is in ChCh now. Do you want me to try and contact him?
