I have been looking forward to this trip for over a year, it's finally less than a week away.
I couldn't afford a Guzzi to ride so I will be on an old red Flying Brick. Hopefully the beamer will be as reliable as they are claimed to be but if anyone there can send me their phone No in a PM just in case I would appreciate it.
The Fanau are particularly thin on the ground down the South Island.
The Guzzi content - My Brother KiwiKev will be with us for a few days, I may have to pull rank and borrow his 1100i to get my Guzzi fix :copcar:
Thanks
Roy

I hope you and Ross have a great trip. I used Bills flying brick when I was there in 2012 and had no issues although as you know a twin is much more useful on those roads.

Hitting Nelson area? Some good roads around here. If you're about let me know.

Thanks for the good wishes, we will be tenting mostly, the only way to go I reckon. I can't wait to get under a moonless Southern sky, the stars are fantastic, wake up to Magpies or a Tui chortling away.
I'm going with my best friend Ross aka Galactica (no Guzzi content there, he's a 70s Kawasaki nut), he will be riding a 98 Honda V4.
We will be met in Auckland by my Bro KiwiKev 96 1000i
I'll try to keep you updated from time to time.
Roy
BTW, I'll be taking my Spot, Is it possible to get it to attach to a thread like this?
Normally it goes to an e-mail address.

Just post the link & we can take it from there.
I'm supposed to be over there (Chch) this month, but haven't got the ticket yet, so who knows if it will happen.
Have an absolute blast - and scallops in Nelson, paua fritters in Hokitika & sausage in Blackball.

Our touring came to an abrupt end when my riding buddy had a serious accident on day 3 breaking 7 ribs and several other boney bits.
The good news is he is going to recover, the bad he will be in hospital for several more weeks.
His wife came over which is good.
Meanwhile I have been doing short trips to visit the Fanau in the Nth Island in between visiting my buddy in Hospital
I have racked up about 4000km on the old brick. it's running great
Back to Canada on Saturday
Cheers

Sorry you did not get down South, perhaps next time. Great roads down here. :bike-037:
Hope Ross recovers fully. That truly is a real bummer.

Very sorry to hear of your mate Ross' accident. I trust he's recovering well & his care is competent. And not too many jokers causing him laughs (That hope probably in vain - there's nothing like a set of broken ribs to attract comedians to the bedside). At least this time of year he's unlikely to catch a cold & start coughing. My sympathies for him. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. That sort of thing really does wreck a perfectly good holiday. Best of luck.

Oh man that sucks! Hope he heals ok!
