Title: NGC at all - it's a photobucket/Android phone question
Post by: ohiorider on February 08, 2016, 07:19:52 AM
I recently upgraded to an almost current Motorola Turbo smartphone (Android.)  One of the apps available from the Playstore provides a link to Photobucket vs using a browser and logging into Photobucket.  The app does establish a link to the PB host.  However, when I attempt to download my albums using their "Your Library" menu item, it first displays "Loading Albums" followed immediately by "There was an error retrieving your albums" message.  Anyone had similar issues with the Photobucket app?

I am able to view recent uploads to my account ...... those come up as my home page.  And I was able to test mail a pic I selected to my Yahoo mailbox, so that part works ok.

Photobucket has always had spells of being buggy. It's horrible right now..it's even crashed my computer. Seemed to work ok uploading the occasional picture from my phone, though.  I quit. The last straw was when it said, "congratulations, all your pictures on your phone are backed up." I didn't tell it, or want it doing that. I'm using Flickr now, and it works much better, but I understand they are in trouble. (Yahoo) I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet and *cough cough* pay Smugmug..

I like photobucket for what it is, a place to put pics you want to share on the net.  Do not use it to store all your photos.  Get a USB stick or memory card for that.

I never download a photo from photobucket.  I just don't think it is secure enough.  And, like pointed out, they can be buggy at times.  But, it is free so you get what you pay for.

In your app, there is an option for uploading automatically.  I make sure to turn that off.  Otherwise, every time you snap a picture it uploads immediately (if you have a data connection).  And, for some reason, it did not work well when I had my iPhone.  Uploaded usually ok but viewing from the phone was a so-so kind of thing.  Never have had any issues with my Androids, but, like I said, I don't download from there either.

The Photobucket Android app (and the Win 8 app) has always been crap.

Thanks for all the comments.  I imagine it will be impossible to get a direct answer from PhotoBucket, but I'll try them (again.) It could simply boil down to Wayne's comment  '.......... the Android app is crap!'
