That's just amazing ---- 60 million people, and only 20 Guzzi dealers!
Don't know if it's much different elsewhere in Europe.
-
I would think NZ has more dealers per capita!!
-
Weird that Jersey, Guernsey and IoM have dealers, but nothing in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

Having ridden in all of those places, it's safe to say that folks in Jersey, Guernsey and IoM have more free spending money than Scotland or Northern Ireland--I can't imagine owning an Aston Martin in Guernsey (with its uniformly restrictive speed limits), but they're surprisingly common.

It would only take 2 dealers for that that be true.

Twiggers are the main people for getting the 8v rollers done. The owner/mechanic was quick off the mark to realise the real problems and starting fitting rollers to all engines that came his way.
They are not big on bike sales, with a small showroom but the workshop is huge which suits me fine.
-
Indeed, I've been to Twiggers a couple of times for parts and they have been very helpful. :thumb:

Yeah , but England is a little island .

done.
I'm struggling with addresses. Some have county codes (which seem to be outdated per the post office) and others list multiple regions beyond the local town. I used (and sorted by) regions that seemed mostly consistent, or at least commonly known. Ah well, the mail evidently does get through.

Certainly sounds like a labour of love. Thanks Daniel.

revised to now sort by region (then city) instead of shire (or postal county). I'm not sure it's better--some addresses still list shires that don't even exist anymore. It looks like between 1960 and 2000 the U.K. changed many of the regional borders and names. Anyway, I guess there aren't so many that it's not easy enough to find what you want. These match Michelin Map practice.

Alas Twiggers have now stopped selling Guzzis, they are still an authorised service centre & parts supplier though.

It sounds like we should still keep them on the list, then--that is, until they stop servicing Guzzi.

Very useful post. To get the information from the Moto Guzzi website necessitates a county by county search. And the British Moto Guzzi Riders forum doesn't give the information. It would be good if you could post your map there.
Oldbike54, look again at the map. neither Scotland nor Wales are in England. All three are part of the United Kingdom. That's why it's the "United Kingdom." The three are share the island, just as Argentina and Alaska share the rather larger island that is the continent of the Americas.

Apparently Streffords in Worcester have kicked Piaggio out but will still be servicing MGs

A request to those living in the U.K.: I'm using the official UK Region names, but it's a challenge when some addresses include only the older names (Devon, for instance, instead of South West). If you see any that I've got wrong, shoot me a note an I'll fix it.

Oh no!!!!
very very sad news!

Paul at Corsa is the lad who fixed my "dead" Guzzi in 2014 when I buggered it up the day before departure. Now I stay with them every year when I ship my bike over to Europe. Absolute gem of a person, would do anything for him.
-
yeah, total legend.
Huzo, any chance you could PM me a contact for Paul or Brian? Have been going to Corsa for around 10 years but I don't do Facebook and would like to reach out to them...
cheers

When I made the dealer list of the Uk, I used Google maps to check if the address had a motorcycle dealer.
Did you get the coordinates with it Daniel, so it is usable in a garmin?

My intent with these dealer lists and maps was to make it really, really easy and quick to update. It is. The current version of Microsoft XL allows you to link data with a map; it does the lat/lon lookup necessary from the same table that you see (I just copy/paste it from the spreadsheet to Wildguzzi without any format changes).
I think most riders looking for a dealer will just look up the nearest one and plug that address into his own GPS unit. There are certainty ways to do that in one swoop with the whole table, but I don't believe there are more than three users here who would use a .GPX file.
The nice thing about UK post codes (zip codes) is that the code, all by itself, will be pretty fair at getting you to the shop.

Daniel, will try to clarify nomenclature....Bri ts refer to locale by County, for example Devon Cornwall and Somerset are counties in the region of the Southwest, Southwest being a description like we would refer to Arizona being part of. Some counties have 'shire' in their names, but they are still referred to as counties. The 'home counties' comprise London and its suburbs. The first two letters of the post code refer to the nearest city.
Finally, for Dusty, the geographical island of Britain is politically composed of England Scotland and Wales. Hope that helps.
-
Daniel, will try to clarify nomenclature...
Thanks.
I had referred to the U.K. post office website for clarification of proper addresses, and that's where I realized that not all addresses follow the latest system. So, while Devon is commonly used, it doesn't play into the post office system that is recommended. But, of course, as long as the postal code is there, hardly any of the rest makes any difference.
My challenge was to try to group the dealers by some broad region that would make sense (such as States in the U.S.). Counties are far too small for that, so it made more sense to use the wider postal regions that have already been defined. Trouble is, those bureaucratic-sounding names don't seem to be much in common usage.
Scotland seems to have been hit harder on that score. The old common names and boundaries of shires have been replaced (in the mid-seventies) by council areas that don't seem to line up. Oh, well... It's not as if there are thousands and thousands of Guzzi dealers that it matters all that much.

Ignore the Post Office. Their designation is solely for their purposes, and doesn't in any way reflect the way we look at things. It doesn't even reflect local government or policing. We identify by county. Counties are our equivalent of your states. We know what counties border on to our own, but we don't know where the Post Office thinks we are.
Most of us have got used to the administrative changes brought about in the seventies. I accept that I live in West Yorkshire, not the West Riding of Yorkshire, and I think that the people of both Cumberland and Westmorland accept that they now live in Cumbria. But I know that around the borders of Yorkshire there's still some resentment, especially where parts of Yorkshire suddenly became part of Lancashire.
-
Daniel, I never take a map or papers with me, so when I need a dealer somewhere I rely on the Garmin that shows me the nearest. But in 60.000 km with the Stelvio, never needed a dealer.

Just drop the table of dealers and addresses in your phone as a file. Then you can easily copy/paste the address to your map. That's what I do. Actually, I have the original spreadsheet on my phone. If you don't carry a smart phone (or anything other than a Garmin), I understand your difficulty.
If you'd like, I'll dump the table into Google maps (or something similar) and then create a .gpx or .kml file for you that Garmin can use.
