Haven't been here long but I've noticed a change in the
general tone here lately to the point where I am a puzzled
little Puggle - then it occurred to me.
I've never experienced it, but you guys are snowed in yes?
Is the Navel Gazing and Pointless Bitching some are espousing
just the "Cabin Fever" I've heard of but never seen?
Not complaining, not trying to change anything, not pointing
the bone at anyone or anything - I like it here, just observing
and wondering.

We really miss Pete.
-
Maurie , some folks just like to complain  Seriously , we will be back to normal now .
We really miss Pete.
Yes we do .
Dusty
-
Normal? Now there's a can of worms - define normal
No don't bother.
I really have no idea what it's like and can only try to imagine.
And we do have winger's and self rightcheous Pussies here too,
Mostly Poms (joke).
Don't envy you the job - must be like herding sheep without
a Kelpie.
Maurie.
-
OK , normal for us . Geez , a head shrinker could have a field day here .LOL

And just what makes you think heads aren't already shrunken?

...must be like herding sheep without a Kelpie.
Maurie.
Now usually I can understand Awstrallyun - but when I saw this I got confused. As someone of Gaelic stock, I know what a Kelpie is(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelpie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelpie)), and I can't see how that would help herding sheep!

Men=sheep?
Two lines up? Just guessing.

Hey if it's winter getting you lot down, would it help if I sent a picture of the awesome summer I'm having over here in NZ?
Or would that just piss you off and make it worse?
It's hot, I got all sweaty just typing that

What , 75 degrees F ? Meh . Pics of your lovely nation are always welcome .

It is 61 degrees here today, with the sun poking through the clouds. No rain, dry roads, fresh gravel on my farmhouse driveway--life is good!
Tomorrow, however, we are set for cooler weather and many days of rain...

define normal
If I do it, it's normal. if I don't, it's kinky.

Kelpie is a breed of sheep/cattle dog.
-
Kelpie is a breed of sheep/cattle dog.
Even I knew that, and I'm not from Austria..
-
That's betterer - shitstirring is much more fun.
An Aust. Kelpie is the best sheepdog in the world, the myth
says they have a touch of Dingo, as epitomised in the book
"Dusty" and the movie "Red Dog" not generally for cattle,
That's more Blue and Red Heeler territory as the dogs work
in different ways with different attitudes.
Having a good Summer in UnZud are you? So far we've been
from Summer to Autumn 3 or 4 times but then I am in
Vicbloodytoria.

So now I'm a Kelpie ? Woof Woof ...

Bootiful day here in UnZud. Just done 4.1/2 hours sweating it out in the nephew's garden trimming trees, edges and hedges. Must admit our summer has been somewhat variable though.
-
Was a cooler start to summer up here in Nelson, but it's kicked off beautifully this year. Glad I bought me a mesh jacket!

Even I knew that, and I'm not from Austria..
Austria is where the kangaroos and wallabies live. It's an island nation in Europe, founded by British prisoners.
Australia is where The Sound of Music was filmed. It has Ayers rock in the middle, sometimes referred to as the Alps.
...or perhaps we're all mixing up our countries a bit. :whip2:
-
yep it's winter, I love it..

Luck to you Muzz.
Dusty - No shame there sport - The book was about the "Ancestral" Kelpie before they were a recognised breed.
I'm doggy so all dogs are good to me in their own way - but Kelpies are special to me, maybe because they saved
two of my Cousins from what could have been a "sticky" end. Yes there's a bit of a story but I won't bore you unless
someone wants to hear.

Oh now you HAVE to tell us that story RANDM

Kia Ora!!
You could send a photo or two of pretty woman in small bathing suits and no-one here would mind ....
I'll be in Hamilton fort a few weeks this June and hoping to find the means to ride....a Guzzi would certainly be my preferred method....rentals anywhere? I was there last April and loved it...but didn't get the chance to ride on two wheels.

Scuddy lad - what are we gonna do with you, ya like a chook been' chased by a bloody Goanna, all over the place,
flappin' ya wings and getting' nowhere bloody fast.
Place was "founded" 60,000+ years ago by the Aboriginals, stolen by the Pommie nobility to use as a place to stick
anyone who wouldn't or couldn't fit into what they were building with the "Industrial Revolution". Stupid pricks thought
they were sending us to Hell but it was a Paradise. So they quickly set to work f***ing it up in any way they could think
of so as not to be seen to be wrong - an ongoing process being proudly performed by our arslicking, ball less, kowtowing
Politicians.
Oh - and it snot Ayers Rock - it's Uluru, geez, how much can a Koala bear. :violent1:

Ok, Sasquatch is the man for photos of beautiful wahines draped over his sidechair rig.
Guzzi Gander in Auckland rents out Guzzis. Daniel Kalal uses them if my memory serves me correctly. June is not the worst time (usually) as the weather can still be settled. It will be colder though and it can also have decided to get nasty as well. Feb-March-April are usually pretty good.

I'll be there for work...so no choice on timing. Planning on staying awhile for fun afterwards.
Thanks

With that kind of leadersheep (not to mention kelpie-deficiency), a koala can't bear much. It's bloody PANDA-monium.

Oh now you HAVE to tell us that story RANDM
Dusty
Two separate incidents actually. North Western NSW ................... ..................
My Uncle Sandy was an Opal Miner at Lightning Ridge (where the best Opal comes from - no Cooper Pedi's shit in comparison), family lived at Collarenabri as the Ridge was very much a wild west type place back in the 50's/60's, shit, come to think of it when I was there in the early 70's it was still "normal" to hear gunfire in the middle of the night and no, they weren't hunting - at least not animals . Kids grew up working on Stations in the surrounding area - mix of Cattle, Sheep and Cropping.
Cousin Bill was out looking for stray sheep and wandering all over the place looking in nooks and crannies. Not wanting to tire the dogs
he had them on the chookie with him - all four of them, and doing about 35/40 mph. He lost his bearings a little and forgot where he was
- but the Kelpies were smarter than him, they knew just what was in front of them and bailed just as he came up to a big flood drainage ditch. He woke up a bit later, around 15 miles from the nearest cuppa with a broken leg among other things and two of the dogs licking his moosh. He reckoned he was worried about the other two cause he couldn't see 'em, but he needn't have - they'd headed back to the homestead for help and then guided that help back to him, so about a thirty mile run without blinking an eye. There's no training for that
involved - just pragmatic intelligence and stamina, those dogs knew the ditch was there when they bailed and they knew what to do to fix things up. Bill always did say those dogs were better than any man to have beside you.
The other was Bill's Brother Dave, he'd been driving a tractor - don't know what he was doing exactly, but he'd noticed something caught up under the tractor, stopped to jump down to clear it and must have bumped the gear stick or it caught on his unzipped jacket - whatever it went into extra, extra low . He was lying under the bugger when he realised it was moving and as it was already pinning that unzipped jacket he couldn't move, he just lay there, took a deep breath and let the back wheel run over him. Kelpie to the rescue again, but only about a 10 or 12 mile run that time. He was a bit second hand for a while - I remember visiting him in hospital and being amazed at the tires lug marks running diagonally across his chest and shoulder. A bit either way and he would have been cactus, even so he said he would have been wallaby ted's brother if he hadn't been on soft ground with a bit of give to it.
So I might be a bit biased where the Kelpies are concerned - even so it'd be a mistake to have one as a pet - they're a working dog born and bred, highly intelligent workaholics that'll go flat out all day and still be willing for more at the end. If you can't give them work to do they go crazy with boredom.
Come to think of it I did see one so tired out he made a mistake and felt ashamed of himself - but that's another story.
Cheers Maurie.

What can you do when there is one - maybe two "Peoples Representatives" actually representing the people in the whole place?
I'm in serious danger of becoming a Conspiracy Theorist cause they just couldn't be that stupid, it's imbloodypossible - it's got to be deliberate ................... .................. right ............. fuckit ............... where me spud gun ................... I'll fix these backtofront #@^(+*$!!!! :bike-037:
-
It'll be alright Maurie , we're all in this together . Heck , here in Oklahoma most of our smartest residents are dogs , I have just come to accept that fact  Heck , if they ever develop opposable thumbs we are no longer going to be the dominant species . Not truly convinced we are now

He's being mean to me and you must immediately ban him and delete this entire thread to save me from further abuse
Back on topic - I've always though you have to be tough living in the back of beyond be it the middle of Aus. Is there a flip side to this in that loads of people die in the outback as they weren't wise enough to take a Kelpie with them?
Tris - a Pom :thumb:

I hope Pete isn't away too long

I've never been O.S. so can't compare - I think Aust is just
different and people who've only been here a while or who
are Tourists just aren't prepared and may not know.
I recently saw a doco. where some tourists in Far North
Queensland were fishing, a whole Family of 5 down to a
youngest of say 8-9 ankle deep in the water at a wier -
There was a Croc in the water watching them about 100
meters away. That's like a smogasborg to a Croc.
I've heard of Japanese on bike tours turning for home
once they hit the real outback too - they can't handle
the emptyness and isolation and get freaked out.
Everyone grows into their own land and environment
I guess.
Cheers Maurie.

anyone in Kiwi Land should go on up to Coromandel and visit the Mussel House Restaurant. Demand to have a word with the long-haired American kid who works in the kitchen. His name is Hank. Make up some story, but be sure to include that his father has people checking on him - he hates that... :-)
Heh.

foto guzzi , Wayne Orwig , Rich A , etc etc , are all still around . Some people simply flame out , some fade away , and we have had more than a few members depart this mortal coil . WG carries on . The fact of the matter is that as long as Luap is willing to put in the 2 hrs a day it takes so that this board can continue , it will survive . Truthfully , no single member joining or leaving will change that . True , the younger V7 owners may have a bit different sensibility than some of the old timers , every generation changes some .
