when i go to search a topic, it opens up a new window and does a google search. is this the only way to search for topics within the forum?
-
Yes.
Since the rebuild, the Wildguzzi Google search is it.
-
what do you have against Google? it works perfectly.

i prefer the old search. brought up more relevant results.
I think overall I agree with that.

The old search function put a tremendous load on WG's server , the new method places that load on Google , they don't even notice it .

The old search was killing the server. At any given time, there could be 100 people searching over 1,000,000 topics. That was putting too much of a strain on the server and causing it to run slow.
Googles servers are much more advanced than what we can afford, so that's our answer. Put the monkey on their back while freeing up cpu resources so the board will run fast for normal stuff.
It works just as good, and we will not be going back to the old style anytime soon.

sigh. but the old search worked better.
I agree.

I'm going to disagree and go with the Google search with one caveat. I hate that Google brings up the "archive threads" as well as the traditional view threads. The archive threads are much harder to read through.
Otherwise I'm decent at searching with Google so I tend to get what I'm looking for faster. I especially use the images search feature to quickly locate a thread if I remember it had a picture. Pictures of Spot running are easier to find than reading about Spot running.

Scroll down to bottom left and you can click on "normal view". Then, it's no problem.

Oh, you must mean " [Go to full version] "
I checked it out, it is much better.
