Hi all i m new to guzzi , i ve had mine since last december, it has just covered 5000kms its a 2013 model. i have this little issue with the battery. its getting 15.1 charge. the mechanic told me that its a bit high. should i be concerned? do i need to change the voltage regulator? any advice is greatly appreciated. everything else works fine...never had an issue not even the previous owner.

That is a bit too high, should be 13.7, Have it swapped out.

Steve, is high ever the grounding/ground strap? Should he check that first?

FWIW, I had the same problem with my '13 V7. Replaced the Regulator/Rectifier and now it's OK. 15.1V is going to kill the battery.

Yeah, it's cheaper and easier to check the ground than to buy a new part. If it's like the previous model, the regulator ground strap goes to bolt on the right side of the engine case, where it meets a wire from the battery.

Yeah, if the ground is bad, it'll overcharge. Do that first. It may not cure it, but if it does.. it's FREE. (Guzzi content) :smiley:

Welcome to WG. Since you're new, run a 14 gauge wire from the regulator case to an engine bolt. Put star washers under both ends.

Chuck, the latest regulators have a dedicated ground strap. They no longer ground through the case.

If it's a strap, I stand corrected. The earlier ones had a dedicated wire, but it was too small.

Batteries are 14.04 VDC by design and the physics of lead/acid. New, at rest with no connections will be slightly less due to internal resistance and ambient temperature. Amperage or current if too high will cook the battery long before 15.1 VDC has any negative effect.

If it's an Odyssey, 15.1 will kill it. Says so right in the charging directions that come with the battery.
