joys of riding local roads in Italy.  No advance signs miles before and no sign here, just a fence across the bridge and a bit of tape.  Turn around and find another way across the river...

"Weak Bridge, Go Slow"!!!   Ha!

but there's no quantifiable limits so the heavier the truck the slower you must go?

Yes.  Shock loading kills bridges...

Was trying to be funny

"This is a really heavy truck so I gotta go really slow - might take all day to get across."

(strange that the sign gives the concept, but no limits)

BTW - the bridge and bike pictures are great!  and the stories too.

I'm enjoying this thread. The first time I rode across the Golden Gate all I saw was the taillights on the car ahead of me. Bought a postcard so I could see it. The next time it was clear.

The Mackinaw Bridge is a treat riding on the grates. The Chesapeak Bay Bridge Tunnel was worth the price. The Lake Poncatrain should be on your bucket list.

The wooden bridges in East Texas are slowly being replaced as they get washed out. If you come to the Texas rally in October Georganne has a number to cross on her route sheet.

Many years ago I toured southern Indianna  over the Kennerly (sp) covered bridges. When the state department put weight limits on the bridges the family took their name off the bridges.

Thanks again for the pics.
Tex

This is wonderful thread, some (if not all) of these shots are beautiful and loaded with un told stories. I've been up the west coast of Norway and over the " bridge to nowhere" on the Atlantic Road but only have it on Go Pro and anyway I still haven't learned how to post that kind of stuff. I notice someone else has some shots of it which did not load for me, but for sure I'd like to see them if possible. Crossing of water on a bike does hold a lovely magic. It occurred to me the other day that if I took my bike to Darwin ( Australian N W coast) and took a short water crossing to Singapore, you can ride to Calais without getting you wheels wet, ( as long as it doesn't rain !).
