Title: First Time Assembling Tonti Fram
Post by: smdl on February 21, 2016, 10:03:02 AM
Hi, folks.

Working on my 850-T/750S tribute, and this is the first time I have assembled a Tonti frame.  I think I have sorted out how the myriad shafts, plates, spacers, etc., go together, and am ready to mate the top and bottom of the frame.  Before I do, I would appreciate any advice as the order of assembly, methodology, etc., as there are a lot of moving parts to get into proper orientation.  It seems to me that it might make sense to bring the front together first, but I had initially bolted the lower rail to the gearbox, and it seems like it will be difficult to fit the upper frame over the lower rails at the front.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Cheers.
Shaun

Hi Shaun

I set the connected engine / transmission on a bench and then maneuver the frame over the unit, I need to wiggle / twist etc to get the frame to drop over, I hand the frame from the ceiling and then I attach the lower rails and the center stand together, the front crash bars and bolt it up.

I know some folks assemble the side rails and center stand on the engine / transmission and then lower the frame on but I have not had good luck with this method.

Cheers

Jim

That`s how I do it, with good luck. Blocking up the engine/trans to an appropriate height and then lower the frame on. But it`s then important that you do not tighten the two long engine/trans mounting bolts too much until you`ve got the frame in place.

Thanks, folks.  Took a bit of patience, but I finally got it together.  It's definitely best to keep everything loose unit it all falls into place.

Cheers,
Shaun
