Title: The mods go for a ride
Post by: oldbike54 on February 21, 2016, 06:12:07 PM
Although one of them is a "Rocker"   Mike and I met up about noon and rode a stretch of US62 Highway today Western AR and Eastern OK . Decent twisties , and one short section is truly amazing . No matter how many times I travel this stretch , it is always better with a good friend along. We shared a great meal in a decent Mexican restaurant , had a good visit , then had to part ways , as our paths home were in opposite directions . Thanks Mike , you are a great friend and riding partner

Pics and a bit of Twilight Zone to follow .

Yep.  Mid-60s and a high overcast, so a good day for a ride.  I little bit of a north wind, but it could've been worse.

I ran about 35 miles of nice twisties to meet Dusty at Summers, on US-62, where we visited for a bit before taking off for Tahlequah.

Dusty is full of tricks and surprises, and asked me to note the mileage sign in Summers.  58 miles to Muskogee.

Then we headed west into Indian Territory, and five miles west of Summers, we come upon this sign.  Though my odometer says we've traveled five miles and I know we're headed in the right direction, the sign says we've backed up a mile!

Indian Territory is great, and Dusty is a good tour guide, but some days it really is nice to have 5+ gallons of fuel on board, when Dusty assures you that the gas station should be open in the next town...

The section of US-62 between Westville and Tahlequah really is one of the nicer sets of twisties in the area.  Fairly lightly travelled, and well maintained.

30-something miles later and we're in TQ, where Dusty picked a heckuva place for lunch.  It's always a good sign when a Mexican restaurant is full of Mexican patrons.  And that sign proved to be true.  I'll be stopping here for lunch again.

After lunch, Dusty headed west for Muskogee, and sadly I had to suffer that twisty, curvy US-62 all the way back home.

One last photo for Dusty

Nice 130 lunch ride on the V7 Special, and with a good friend.   :bike-037:

Thanks Mike , see you found the cool old HS building on your way back through Westville  :thumb: Another bit of Twilight Zone , Westville is East of 99.9 percent of Oklahoma , there is however no Eastville in Western OK , although the little town 10 miles or so North has been wanting a name change. I suggested Eastville , so it would require traveling North from Westville to reach Eastville . Kind of like the situation in the Boston area , where apparently a lack of sense of direction makes it impossible for tourists to find anything

More like being such a Luddite technophobe requires taking along someone savvy enough to take and post pics on this bit of sorcery known as the internet  :embarrassed:

yep.  That section of 62 is the best road in the state.  When I am heading to Arkansas I usually come down from Locust Grove and take 82 to Tahlequah and then 62 to Fayetteville.  Then 74 to Jasper.

The only slow part is West Fayetteville where they patrol the heck out of it.   I usually get a sandwich at Briar Rose in Farmington.

My favorite Okie road is probably US-259 where it crosses Talimena Drive.  But US-62 between Westville and TQ is a good-un.

I'm glad you guys made it out. Although the temps were great up here and the roads were dry, the salt powder covering the roads kept me from getting the bike out. It will find its way into places that you can't get it out of. Not to mention how adhesion is greatly compromised on said surface. Oh man, some good Mexican. My mouth is watering! :food:

it's been posted before.

I'd like to try the complete loop sometime.  And I've never driven 59.

Thanks John L , I ride that road so frequently that how special it is gets lost . Eastern OK is laced with great MC roads , we might do a tour based out of Spavinaw .

Some of my riding buddies over the years who think Oklahoma is a vast desert with nothing but  straight mile section roads have been surprised at my ability to negotiate curves with some competency

He didn't invite me Chet either.

Didn't get mine either, I guess the mods need some time together to figure out how to handle all us ruffians. Had to ride on the missouri side, poor pitiful me :lipsrsealed:

Yeah , it's a conspiracy  Actually , all three of you guys are ALWAYS invited . I left from Jay's place , and the only disappointment was that he couldn't make the ride with us .

Reality is that , no one wants to see any detailed close ups of this 130K mile Jackal or that old guy riding it

quite the opposite, I aspire to achieve similar milestones with both the bike and me carcass. Seeing a properly sorted and nearly broken in Jackal will feed the optimism. I mean, you're right about the rider of course. But the Bike. let's see the bike.  :boxing:

I think I'll head to the RAT Raid the weekend after CV and spend an extra day getting there.  I want to do the loop.

Darren and I did Spavinaw (and Dead Man's Curve).
