Supposedly baked sweet potato topped with yogurt is one of the perfect food combos . Lately that has become one of my go to dinners , easy to fix , and satisfies a couple of different cravings . Damn, between healthy pizza and yams , I hardly ever eat junk anymore

Never heard of that before. Just bake a sweet potato and then put plain yogurt on it? How long and at what temp?
Sweet potatos keep real well also, uncooked ones still in the bag that is. :)

Love sweet potato. Long slow bake. Tasty, nutritious, anti inflammatory.

Normally start them in the microwave , 90 seconds , then wrap with foil and 20 minutes in the toaster oven at 350 . Sweet and tangy .

I was at Ruth Chris Steakhouse in South Bend a number of years ago and had this sweet potato dish. It's so good, almost like eating candy. It's become a staple at our family Thanksgiving table.

My mom's older sister was married to a gentleman from Lebanon. They were married back in the mid-1920s. So, my aunt Virginia learned to cook Med style. She visited every summer, and we ate stuffed grape leaves along with stuffed cabbage, baklava, and salads loaded with wheat (tabouli). And yogurt! My aunt and mom always made yogurt, using a 'starter' yogurt from a previous batch to kick off the process. They didn't use a yogurt maker. As I recall, the mixture ended up in a large ceramic bowl with a cover. It was wrapped in a blanket to control the cool down process.
The result .... great lumpy yogurt that made the perfect topping for stuffed grape leaves.
I still make a similar dinner today, but using canned grape leaves, and frozen Italian meat balls. And Dannon yogurt. made without the love of a 'starter' that my aunt brought with her on the train, from Beaumont, Texas to Charleston, West Virginia.

Cut up root vegetables including bot not limited to yams. Put into a baking dish. Add mushrooms if you like. Then add olive oil and seasonings - I like black pepper and basil - then bake until done.

Nope. Try a baked sweet potato and tell us it is a joke

Wrap em foil and toss them in the campfire coals.
If you use yogurt with active cultures you add some probiotics to go with all those antioxidants.
Do this mean no fishery at Cedar Vale?

That is one whopping sweet potato! May I ask, if indelicately, what is that thing hanging from its arse?

Good question, I was hoping some of the many BRILLIANT WG members would help me with that. What do you think? We did bake that sucker and put it in a pie, and it was REALLY GOOD! I grew them in a box of leaves 3 foot deep.

Well, I had the question and will gladly leave the answer to someone else.

Farmer's Almanac but of course! Everything is in there. The information you need is probably near the article on the Higgs Boson!

A mini skewer to help the inside cook faster? I don't know but considering how slowly they grow, feeding the that metal rod to the baby potatoe musta taken a long time..prolly while waiting on Guzzi to go outta business.

don't you need a can of spinach to go with that?

Solved, but can one make a pie from it?

We have sweet potatoes or yams at least once a week. Slice 'em and put them on a baking sheet with butter or olive oil.. Add just about any kind of flavored salt. Mmm mmm good!

Yes! One can hardly go wrong with a sweet potato.
When I was young the only sweet potatoes served in our household came in tins and mom topped with marshmallow. What a horrid fate for a sweet spud.
-
In the interest of varying opinions, sweet potatoes are something to puke about. You couldn't put enough yogurt on one to bury it.

I usually put yams and/or carrots in my steel cut oats, every morning.
-
I rub them down with butter, wrap in foil and bake. Once done, split that sucker and add more butter.
That little worm thingy IS a worm. Ear worm-a song that gets stuck on auto replay in your head. Henery indeed! Harumph.

Yum...it all sounds good... I really don't eat the way I ought to but you all got me to thinking about it...
Hey, Dusty, how about a Wild Guzzi Cookbook?
-
Toaster oven all the way. Yogurt on top. Then add some cooked steel cut oats for the perfect topping to a perfect meal!

Hey, Dusty, how about a Wild Guzzi Cookbook?
We have discussed a cookbook before . Maybe just start a thread with the heading "Recipes" and see what happens Vince .

A yam is part of my regular diet when my wife is out of town and I am 'baching it' for the night. I boil one for about 30 minutes, grill a small, boneless pork chop or 5/6 ozs of salmon, a glass or so of red wine -- quite nice.

If that's Orange on the inside over here we call them Kumara.
I experimented this year and put Two of the cut off tips in the
Herb patch - I now have two Kumara plants growing but don't
know how long they take to mature. I figure when the plant
dies back, the tuber will be fully mature?
Maurie
-
Maurie, I recall Pop buying them at the farmer's market mid-summer here in the northern hemisphere. Mom would bake them and freeze for use later during winter. I doubt the foliage would die unless hit with a hard freeze so watch for off shoots coming up near to the mother plant. You have two so pluck one and investigate. Yes, ours are orange inside.
-
Thanks RedR,
Still a couple of months available growing time yet but
will do. We like ours steamed or baked mostly, but they're
also excellent in a half/half mix of potato mashed and with
Chives or Onion/Leek cooked off with some Bacon mixed
through.
Did a Bolognaise last night with our Amish Paste Tomatoes.
They were so sweet I only had to add salt to balance the
flavours - yummy. Gotta love Summer.
Maurie.
