Leningrad Cowboys? Don't know anything about them but they look like Russians who spent a year in space listening to Mexican Banda music. The guy in front looks like he has a giant thai stick on his head. Maybe that explains it. And, well, they are in a V formation. Points for that.

Yep , and the song is generally credited as being the first R&R recording .

Well, I guess the 4th is a good average.  It's debated on whether is was March 3 or March 5.

It wasn't Ike Turner Revue, but  "Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats", which was really "Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm".

Ike himself said this was not the first Rock & Roll song, but the song that inspired the first Rock & Roll song...

Now, where's the red suspenders smiley ??

Well, Ike wasn't really sure what year it was most of the time   It's only rock and roll , but I like it .

Crazy that those guys were 17 and 18 years old and were cranking out stuff like that.

I met Spencer Davis a few years back , we got off on Steve Winwood . He told me Steve was already a musical genius at 15 .

If you could write a song with that hook you could clean up.

I had to do a little research. "Seminal" seemed like a strong word but I guess your right, the 1st rock and roll song did make a major change. That was a little before my time. My earliest rock and roll memory was probably watching the Beatles cartoon on tv👀

"If I could sing like Paul McCartney
and get funky like Etta James "

Not much of anything is more important to a couple of generations than ROCK AND ROLL !

The Flaming Lips! I love them! Or I love them up to "At War With The Mystics". I think they are kinda dark and unmusical these days.

Thanks for posting Rocket 88!

I think it's known as the first commercially successful R&R record.

Early Rock & Roll had lots of influences.

Dig the drums and guitar on this 1951 Bob Wills recording.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFef08YZ6qk

And it's Bob's birthday today.  3-6-1905.

Bob's band members were early adopters of electric guitars, modifying and customizing and doing things that hadn't been done before.
