Ah, what a Craigslist search can turn up.

Sonny was my go-to for parts back in the pre-internet era.

Nice bike. I notice it has drum brakes instead of disks. As a 74, I wonder if it has a timing chain or gears? The real question of course (looking past the asking price) is whether or not the chrome bores have been replaced, and what with.

If it's really a '74, it should have either a 4LS drum or disc. Might be a '73, sold in '74 and titled as a '74 because of that.
Timing chain started with engine no. 58532, about mid way through '73 production.
Engine and frame nos. would help answer both questions.

This makes the deal!

I'm puzzled that the date stamps on all the photos are eight years old...

I was just going to mention that...
Sonny did not spell his name "Sunny"

The last three times that I was at Sonny's that Eldo was not there...
I will tell you though, that garage is FULL of Guzzis, Ambos, Eldos, T-3's, Converts of all conditions.
And parts, wow, what a place to hang out and gawk at Guzzi stuff.
The new owners are keeping the name and they will do a bunch of British and Italian motorcycles.
Lots of history in that building.
Best,
Rob

Interestingly, there's an eBay seller in PA who is selling a plate frame just like that - with that spelling!

My older brother, John, was not a bike guy. So it surprised me when he wanted to join me for a visit to Sonny's bike shop.
I was in Arizona in 2011, and I decided to give my brother a visit. He had lived in Delmar, CA for several years, and it wasn't much of a drive from Queen Creek AZ to the San Diego area.
We had spent a couple of wonderful days in the Delmar area, including going to the San Diego Museum and also to the Maritime Museum. But I needed to do something 'motorcycle-oriented.' A WG member had suggested stopping off at Sonny Angel's shop, south of San Diego.
So, off we went. And it couldn't have been a more pleasant day. John was pushing 80 years old at the time, and it was amazing to watch how he and Sonny got along. Come on now ..... I'm the bike guy!
Sonny walked us through the shop, showed us the Vincent they were in the process of rebuilding, the loft where some homebuilt fiberglass fairings were stored. We met Sonny's brother (Ralph?) who had run at the Salt Flats multiple times.
There was the funeral urn that Sonny had machined, that contained the ashes of his wife of many years.
The visit to Sonny's was a morning I will never forget. My brother passed away in November of 2014, but I'm so glad we had the opportunity to share the time together in an old motorcycle shop, where it didn't seem to matter if you were a bike guy or not.

Went to Sonny's shop several times in the late 80's and early 90's. He loved his Quota. Took it down to Mexico all the time, from what I remember. Lots of really old triumphs, Ducati, Norton, BSA or two and a Vincent that he was always fabicating parts for on an old lathe. Interesting guy and fun shop to oogle around.

A trip down memory lane ... Sonny and family were a big part of my support crew with my first Guzzi circa 1980 - 1990 ...
