To Burton for coffee. Then a short ride east thru Amish country. On my way home, I took a short road I'd never been on ..... it runs along the west bank of LaDue Reservoir, which is part of the water system for the City of Akron.

Lovely ride Bob! :thumb: If I were to have an airhead, one like that would be just fine. Super looking bike.

was 71 here in balmy Michigan today. Couldn't get my Eldo out of the garage though, blocked in my a tractor and a zero turn mower. I need to fix that.

It's been wonderful to be able to get out this early in the year. I haven't made a long ride yet, but I think 4 rides in Feb, 1 in March. Each one 70-100 miles. Beats last year, for sure. Before the real season starts, the old GS will need, at a minimum, the front camshaft and crankshaft seals replaced. If my crackerjack mechanic, Jamie, at Mathias BMW can do this without pulling the timing chest off the front of the engine, it might be an inexpensive job. I think that is doable. Poor old bike has so much grunge on the bottom side of the engine, I'm about to purchase a steam cleaner! BTW - this bike and I have had some adventures over the past 25 years ....... it was March of 1991 when I took delivery at Andy Pelc's in Canton, Michigan.
I'll be out of commission from May 10th until at least the first of July, maybe a little longer, (a valve job, me, not the bike) so perhaps that'll be the time to have work done on the GS. All the 1200 Sport needs (AFAIK) is a new set of tires, front and rear pads, and valves checked/adjusted.

Best of luck with your valve job! I'm sure you'll be feeling better than ever shortly

73 here in central Indiana. (!!) Couldn't stand it, took the AeroLario out for an hour, no matter it is blowing 20. Gawd, I love this engine..

Bob,
Thanks for the memories! As a teenager I moved from Warren to Kent. After I bought my first street bike (in 1965) I took back road rides between the two towns. I remember riding past this reservoir, but back then I think they called it the Akron City Reservoir (could be wrong). In any case, the countryside in NE Ohio is very nice, especially on an early Spring day like today--gotta watch out for the horseshit on the turns, though.

Good luck with that, sir. With any luck at all, I'll be thinking about you.
Hopefully, my weight reduction program.. losing a kidney and prostate.. will take less time out of my schedule. Got things to do, can't be bothered by this stuff.. :) Still have the national in the plan.

Thinking about you, too, my friend! I'm like you in that respect ...... 'ok doc, let's get this crap over with. There's miles and miles of roads I need to explore.'

Bob,
Just read your last post. Keep us informed about how the valve job goes, and let us know when you are back on the road again.

Thanks for the good wishes, all of you. If this weather continues, I may be able to get in a few thousand miles before May 10th. I'll make sure I get a good riding 'fix' in before the Cleveland Clinic performs their magic. Last time I was back on the Kaw W650 within 6 weeks of a 6 bypass operation, and went to Vintage Days and camped. Gotta remember, however, I was a young lad of 58 at the time. Might take a few more weeks this time!

Such a simple original post. Beautiful bike on an idyllic day. Experienced owner/rider feeling spring coming on.
Good luck, Bob and Chuck, with your personal PM. Hope all goes well and you're both back in the saddle before you know it.
Best,
Carlo

Yeah, that is a nice little road. Been through there a few time myself. Glad to see you made it out. Perhaps again today too!
See you at breakfast Sunday.

See you Sunday. I slept thru the last one!

EDIT: Another 70 or so miles on the GS. Sun and clouds this afternoon, so I fired up the 1200 Sport and took her out for an additional 60 miles. What a sweetheart!
