Title: No Jackals For Sale?
Post by: Park Ridge Phil on March 10, 2016, 01:15:44 PM
A friend of mine who never owned a Guzzi has been looking for a Jackal and says he can't find any for sale. He's not getting mine. But he's curious why. Any ideas out there?

Same with Quotas....a combination of very satisfied owners and low initial sales, I suspect....

FWIW I saw a 2004 Stone on Moto International's website for under $5K I think with fewer than 10K miles.......like a Jackal I think?

hydro motor afaik is the only real difference between the 00-01 Jackals and the later Stone, but I'm no authority.

to me this looks like a great deal, and instate to the OP, if I'm not mistaken.

Funny how a couple of years back.  People were dumping their Jackals.  Now seems a bike to have.

That is a nice Stone Touring, low mileage and a good price, well outfitted with the bags and all...  the one at Moto Int'l is no slouch either, equal time and all that.

Where are you located Phil...?

Best,
Rob

Park Ridge Illinois. Near Ohare airport. I'll forward this info to my friend. He's a perfection nut so the bike has to be near mint. He has a beautiful Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. Very nice. Can't believe he took it out for a ride the other day with the streets still having salt on them.

I was not going to post this up yet, I need to bring the '01 V11 Jackal out from the back of the garage where she has been sleeping all Winter but...  this will be For Sale in a couple of weeks.

Just the way you see it plus a H & H fairing, it had been installed on a Wild Guzzi member's Guzzi and taken right off as he changed his design plan, I bought it to give to my Son-In-Law for the 2001 Jackal that I gave him but ended up finding a genuine Swanee Aerofoil for it nearby so the H & H is available too.

That's nice radguzzi. Keep us posted on price and when it goes up for sale. You never know. The one at CD is also nice.

I don't think I'd go that far.

The best thing about the Jackal, Bassa, EV is under all that ugly there is a Tonti frame with endless potential :whip2:

Oh, I don't think he means it in an insulting way.. just that you can do *anything* to a Jackal. I was thinking "Sporty bike" when I picked mine up from the wrecking yard, then changed my mind to "Sidecar rig." That's not to say the stock Jackal isn't a good bike, but it's a great blank canvas.
Just another of those "Failure to communicate" things that happen with the written word. <shrug>

Nice thing about the one we have at C&D is Bpreynolds here on the board is the former owner. He traded it in on the V7 he loved so much before switching to the Griso. The Stone is a nice bike and mind boggling as to why it hasn't sold yet.

Thanks for giving the heads up on the bike

Me either. Even 2 up.

Mine was perfectly adequate as a solo bike, but I converted it to dual discs when I put the hack on it. Cheap. There are always Ducati posers that have to put the "latest thing" on their bike, and Brembo stuff is cheap on the bay. I did the whole conversion for less than $150.

Yeah, me too.
I didn't really have any problem with the single disc, but adding the second was a simple bolt-on, and now I have killer 2-finger brakes. One of my favorite things about Jackals is that you never see two of them fitted out exactly the same. It's just so easy to bolt stuff onto them.

I think the Jackals will end up having the same fate as the G5 - most will end up chopped up, diced up and used in projects and low carb diets.

I could be tempted to sell my 02 stone. Needs a speedo and for 15 years old it looks pretty damn good. Cheryl is pretty much done riding with me so I really don't need it anymore. That said I have been enjoying riding it lately while the beast is still in winter hibernation.

I guess riding it till you sell it is the best option. :thumb:

Thanks,

The one that I put new jets in only to have no spark and then moved around the garage and had the front caliper piss all over the floor. Besides kip called first dibs when he offered me his lario. I think I'd gladly get rid of it if I could get it running good.

Funny, I just helped my buddy fire up Kips old Lario in my shed this evening. He had sent the heads off to Ace for some attention.

Kip...? ? ?   I don't want to nudge a brother away from the dinner table but I asked you that about five years ago or longer...
Yeah, those Lockheed calipers eat seals for some reason, probably dry up.

Which color is the Trident...?

Besides. All I have here for trading is the V11 Jackal...

Best,
rad

its Cardinal red, for a 41 year old unrestored bike it does look pretty good. Like I told my wife last night I should quit looking at newer triumphs and just put a few thousand in the pocket of someone with better skills than my own.

Funny how some guys don't like the single disc brake.  I never had any issues with it.

When I got my Jackal it had a warped front single disc. Stopped fine, perfectly adequate, but the shudder pulling at traffic lights pissed me off.
I got a pair of wave blade discs off ebay ($150USD) and a caliper ($300SD off a ducati. Can buy much cheaper if you shop around the wreckers.) and now it stops scary fast!
Awesome braking with twin discs now. The way it should be, though, the "One finger braking" habit under normal circumstances is a bit scary when you REALLY NEED TO STOP QUICK! It's a bit of a transition back to a handfull of brakes in an emergency.

Took the OL tail light assembly off and getting ready to make it look just like yours. Did you just paint over the center stand or do something different ?

Hi Phil.
I got a used centre stand from TLM in Germany and had it chromed before fitting. It does grind on left hand corners, so there is an annoying scratch/rust on the spot. I go over the scratch with silver paint occasionally to keep the rust at bay.

Also had to fit a chrome footpeg (hand grip) on the left just under the seat to lift the bike onto the centre stand. If you look hard you can see it here, sticking out next to the rear shock:

Good luck with your bike.
