When I was younger, in my 30's, I used to drink a lot of whisky. So much so that I quit it all together. (everyone kept wanting to punch me in the nose ).
But now there is a new demon whisky on the market, honey whisky. I really like it but must be very careful not to be buying it every weekend, or whatever. Crown Royal and JD are also favourites.
I do not like Johnnie Walker anymore. Prolly a good thing. Irish whisky and Scottish whisky are okay.
But the honey whiskies beat them all. Mmmm.

I used to drink a lot of Jack Daniels and had to quit as it started to give me horrible hang overs. Saw some of the JD honey in the package store and could not resist. Good stuff and as long as I limit myself......no hangovers. :thumb:

To each his own on the honey, maple, mint julep, and even sarsaparilla flavored whiskies although I certainly understand that all whiskey (or whisky) is flavored. Maybe it was the Red Stag that I tried first.
I infused some different fruits into some "local" peach brandy with interesting results. I used dried fruit from the Earthfare and the best ones were not the ones I expected. Those should be ready for the summertime if you want a roadtrip!

The 'Retired Carpenter Fund' here on our street, 3 of us, is a bottle of Maple Beam or Crown. One guy started it, wives go away on vacation, we get together & sip.
You know it's time to quit w/you want a drink if you smell Maple bacon cooking.
Doing something different this session, got a bottle of Dickel #1 , no flavor, smooth, no aftertaste, I believe it's Shine. Clear color looks like water on ice.

If you like those, try Knob Creek Maple.... Mmmmmmm.
The Crown Royal Maple isn't bad too.

The flavored stuff is a little sweet for me. Reminds me of the time I drank too much southern comfort. I like the taste of Jameson's Irish or bulliet rye and a beer :boozing:

While I prefer Whisky over whiskey I have been finding myself enjoying either Jim Beam Apple and Red Stag cherry on ice.

Must be an age thing, I find myself needing my "medicine" more often these last years. maybe it's all the damage I done to myself over the years
Maybe this year, if things work out, I'll get my shoulder fixed. I'm reluctant to go under the knife and hate the riding time that will be lost.
My recent change in "medicine" is the "red hots" flavor. 1/2 gallon of Fireball at Costco is only $20, fortify that with some cheaper Scotch and those sleep-preventing pains go away.
While riding my Griso I don't seem to feel the pain either---I wonder why.

After we ended prohibition a couple years ago, I have to say my hard liquor consumption is down a bit. Cannabis is so much better in every way. But alcohol still has its place, and right now what I'd spend money on is mescal. So far only shelled out for a couple ordinary espadin mescals, of which Pierde Almas was the best so far.
To make the stuff sweeter, you can mix whatever you like with honey. I think selling it already mixed looks like a way to dispose of lower quality product, but that's fine too, as long as it is cheaper than the stuff that has to be good enough straight.

I tried the Jim Beam maple as the honey variety was sold out as it often is. I thought I would like it. Didn't. Way too sweet.
And now, I only do a snort of whisky before I go to bed or shortly after supper to help with digestion. No more whisky benders for me! 😬🏥🚔

A local establishment has a bourbon drink with maple (syrup?) and a big chunk of bacon. It's kind of like desert only better.

I drank two bottles of that stuff like it was slave whiskey. Three years later I go to the store and it's virtually onubtanium.

I believe additives in liquor should be limited to the aromatics and the barrel choices - the rest is adulteration. If you want your bourbon sweet, just mix it with Coke! (blech!)
One of the reasons Armagnac is so much better than Cognac is that it is only distilled once, and you can taste the original fruit - where with cognac being over-distilled, they have to pull tricks to add flavor back in.
And as for beer, the German Purity Laws of the 1500s had it right. Beer is made from water, malted barley, hops and yeast. If it has rice, it's either Japanese or it's not beer (I'm talking to you, Budweiser!). If it has fruit, it's made by crazy Belgians who don't understand what beer is - or by trendy Seattle types who also don't understand beer. And if it has wheat, then it is an abomination before the face of all the patron saints of brewing!
