There was a post a couple months ago about lost title services, etc. I used a title service that deals with the state of Vermont. I said then I would report on the process. Others have pointed out that a person could contact Vermont DMV directly, D.I.Y. and save the fee. Anyway, soon after payment, I was issued a Vermont registration, tags, and a week later, ownership paperwork. I insured the bike, took the packet to the Oklahoma DMV, and they misread the Vermont info and refused me a title. I called Vermont DMV ,they called Oklahoma and after a half hour, Oklahoma DMV called me and said my Oklahoma title would be issued and arrive in a week or so. :thumb: So, the process works. Your local DMV may need schooled on the process, but it does work. Much easier to get paperwork for a vehicle 15 years old or older. It was not cheap (about 235 bucks, 65 of which was sales tax), but I now have a legal, low mileage, very low number 2001 Triumph Bonneville. Those old Eldos and Ambos with no title are no longer a lost cause or parts bike. Here they are : http://www.motorecyclenow.com/title-service.html

In the case of North Carolina, there's a procedure that costs $100 more than the usual title and registration fees, involving a title bond. It worked very well for me, and I was able to get a motorcycle without a title registered and legal in a couple days. I'm pretty sure there are other states that have procedures involving bonded titles.

A big caveat which I will throw into the discussion. The requirements for each state differ. While similar doesn't necessarily mean that what works in one state will work in another. Do your research for both state involved then expect to put out some funds. If only one state involved then the process should be easier.

Even if your state won't recognize the VT registration as valid, you still have a legally registered and tagged vehicle. Just keep renewing it in VT! :wink:

The Vermont title is great but getting insurance could be a hassle.
The last title service I used, used Maine which is reciprocal with my state as to titles.
