Title: Mid April MD/DC area camp Out on Eastern shore of MD
Post by: sidecarnutz on March 29, 2016, 05:48:00 PM
Anyone else excited to go this year? This is always my first camp out for the year. Everything will be blooming. Always a great trip up to the eastern shore!

A gaggle of us are coming down from Jersey and eastern PA.  Looking forward to the ride to an excellent roadside BBQ joint just into VA.  They have a 1 pound sandwich called the "Jurassic Pork"!

I'll be up there Friday early afternoon myself. That is if the weather cooperates and there's no wind restrictions on the Ches bay bridge tunnel. I've actually been stuck by that before.

This one is fast approaching.  If anyone is planning to tent camp, you should make a pass through the camping loop before you register for a site.  There could well be someone already set up on a site that you could share to split the cost.

See you there!

Howard

There's also a great BBQ place in Patchin right before the Bay/Bridge tunnel.  And, yes, I've also been held up from crossing due to high winds!

Great advice Howard! I'll do that. I'll be able to share whatever space I get as it's just me in my van this year.

I'm all packed. Testing out my solar powered frig this weekend. I have a 100 watt solar panel on the van roof that charges a deep cycle battery and powers a inverter to power the frig. The single panel is just enough to charge the battery and run the frig in full sunlight. The battery can run the frig for almost 2 days on one charge. I'll add another 100 watt panel next week when the hardware comes in. But I got a big chuck roast at the Navy Commissary this afternoon. I'll start a pot roast in my iron Dutch oven when I get up there tomorrow afternoon. I'll have enough to share with 2-3 other people for dinner tomorrow. I like to cook mine with onion chunks and potatoes and baby carrots in a onion soup gravy if that matters to you. See y'all tomorrow afternoon.

Well this was a great weekend.

Gorgeous weather, nice location, rode with a great group of people...

Got to meet some great people too... Including Rich and Howard (who looked familiar but I was too dog tired to investigate last night).

Two guys disappeared both Saturday-day and Saturday night before I got the chance to chat with em, but those that stuck around last night were a ball.

My thanks to Bill and Howard and Tom for hosting this camp out. It was great seeing you all there! I had a relaxing drive home Sunday. No more head wind to fight like on the way up. Rebuilt my broken axe Sunday afternoon. Pleasant hour and a half's work. Decided to rebuild it with a boys length handle as I really liked it that size. All set to camp again.  The folks from NJ and Pa. and parts north were a hoot to talk to around the fire. Tomorrow I'll wash all the pollen off my van!

Yeah, it took me a while to put the pieces together, too.  We have met before at rallies.  I remember a few hours talking to you, Jen, and Jay at the Virginia rally in Buena Vista once upon a time.
