Title: Eastbound-Seattle to Arkansas
Post by: travelingbyguzzi on April 15, 2016, 09:27:34 AM
Hurray! dragging out tomorrow my spring trip to visit my 82 year old father in Arkansas.
This year, I pick up another rider as I pass thru Bend OR.
Gary Steele is a retired sawmill hand from loggings glory days. Think Henry Fonda in 'Sometimes A Great Notion.'
He will come as far as the Cedar Vale event and then swing up to Nebraska to visit some of his family.
The weather looks great for us. I will post as we go along. Potential wayposts are the Moki Dugway and Pikes Peak.

If you're going by or thru Santa Fe, we could get together for meal or coffee or something.

Cookie is not coming this year. She recently started a new job and has not yet aquired merit.

Looks like you have some great riding ahead of you Bill...enjoy the route!  Moki or Pikes...both fun destinations, hopefully you can ride Moab or Gateway to Telluride and then over thru Gunnison to Co. Springs...one of my favorite routes, I'm sure you've done it in the past.

I'm aiming to arrive Cedar Vale as well by Friday late afternoon/early evening depending on how far I get down the road or up the road as the case may be on Thursday afternoon.

You may want to go as far south as you can. Crossing the Rockies this time of year gets a little iffy. Hell, I crossed them in July and got snowed on.

Bill has done this trip before and cold weather seems to not effect his body.     It get's cold where Gary lives so maybe he's the same way.

The best news of the day is that Oregon raised the speed limit on it's country hiways  two weeks ago. It went from 55mph statewide to 65mph.
Made 699 miles to Winnemucca. Obviously, it is now too late
to turn around and go back home.
Tomorrow, we hope to get to Cedar City, UT. Then, we have to decide whether to go South or North.

Go south out of Cedar City and it will warm up real quick.  BTDT.   Not that it will really be warm, but right now it's all relative.

Nothin but sunshine today. Highs in the mid-50. Spent most of the day on U.S. 50. Ended up in Cedar City UT. We are definitely dropping down into AZ tomorrow.

Monday night we were in Gallop NM, tonight we are Tucumcari NM. We have stayed dry if not overly warm. Today, we saw 70° for the first time and want to see more. It appears that we will get to Cedar Vale on Thursday.

Probably the 1200 Sport , seems to be Bill's traveling motorbike . Shirley is staying home with Cookie.
