but have no idea if it will work with the T rear fender, with all the seat flippy uppy voodoo going on. I am ok with the seat not being able to flip or or lightly modifying the seat to work but I would rather not try to be shoving square objects through round holes

All the flipping portions aside, the V7 Sport also used a different gas tank than the 850T so that might be problematic unless you've switched tanks also.

The tank fit will be an issue, the sport tank is much narrower and that flip up fender is NLA as best I can see. One just sold for over 650.00 on Evilbay.

Well, I do plan on getting a v7 tank when I have the money to spare for it but that won't be any time soon unfortunately :/ could I make it work somehow with the T tank in the meantime?

I'm curious if it'll fit too... I don't see how the tank width would make that much difference on seat fit, as long as the tank lengths are the same or pretty close. I could see how it could work, but the 850T rear grab rail with the seat hinge brackets, would most likely need removed and replaced/modified. Let us know what you find out!

Like JoeW says. The wider tank will cause a squish problem. Ask how I know. Also the rear flip fender is required otherwise you might have to butcher er.. modify both the new seat as well as the T fender. To compound the great news , I contacted Mandy at Stein Dinse and they have no idea as to when the seat will be available. At least the spring is here and the sun is shining...

I can't see any way a V7 Sport seat would work with the T seat bracket, better to just discard that and mount the seat like on a 'Sport. Just "spitballing" here. The V7 Sport seat mounts to the holes in the very end of the frame rails and the underside of it actually forms part of the rear fender (kind of the middle/top section). I think the easiest way to make it work with a T fender would be to cut off and use just the rear section of the T fender to match the V7 Sport fender, form a "channel" out of sheet stainless like on the 'Sport fender (or just made a simplier pivot bracket), rivet or bolt it to the T fender, fabricate "ears" on either side and attach them to the T fender. Basically, you'd be making the T fender attach exactly like 'Sport fender - hinged off the back of the seat and secured at the sides with thumb-screws.

Well, it doesn't sound like it'd be the plug and play like I was hoping for, which is ok really. I only had the v7 seat idea in my head until recently so my heart's not too caught up in it. I guess I don't mind spending less money on an actual T seat lol

I was hoping someone would provide more specific information, but here goes...
MG Cycle site used to describe what needed to be done to fit the V7 Sport tank and seat on a T or T3, etc., frame. There is a difference in the length of the tank, so if only one item is bought there will be a gap (I think an inch or so), unless you bought the wrong one, in which case there is not enough room. (I'm not sure if the V7 tank is longer or shorter.) I'm sure they'd be happy to fill you in on all this if you were buying from them. I just checked the site, though, and the information is no longer posted.
I expect you could send an email to Stein Dense and find out that way.

I have fit a 750S replica seat to an 850T. I'm using the V7 Sport / Lemans type tank. Never tried fit with the stock tank. The 750S seat mounts just like the V7 Sport. Not much of a problem fitting the seat. You just need a few minor parts like some rubber bushings and metal spacers that were used on the V7 Sport. I think the rubber bushings for the seat are the same ones used to mount the dash on the 850T.
The biggest issue is the rear fender. The seat will interfere with the stock fender. I have been waiting 2 years for the V7 Sport replica fenders to be available again. Nothing yet. I have had thoughts of modifying a stainless T fender as Charlie mentions. It should work but the only issue I saw was there might not be quite enough material on the sides for the knobs.

I may just have to come back to it later, I'd rather have my one and only bike restored asap lol.
That said, would anyone know the whereabouts of a good seat for an 850t? Maybe I should just start another thread?

Yep, like Charlie and Hahnda said, the problem is the seat/fender interferance. I have both a repro 750S seat and V7 Sport seat and what I made up fits both the same. I tried this first with an old rusty Yamaha fender just as a feasability study and thought enough of it to cut a nice stainless T fender. Bear in mind this is a first try, all the while hoping the original type repro fenders become available again. But in the meantime this will get the bike built. If I end up having to use it I'll make a nicer bracket and hardware.
In the pics the seat is sitting on my '85 Lemans frame I have modified to take the 70s Lemans tank and Sport seats. The fender flips up as the original.
Maybe this will give you some ideas. It is do-able and not all that tough.

For once and for all we'll get to see just how to fit a Sport seat to a Touring tank. And what it actually looks like. And how much a gap there is or isn't. I'm not beholden to the V7 style fender, I may go with something completely unorthodox. Stay tuned!

I removed the T5/G5 rear seat bracket and shoved the Sport seat on. The seat fits great. The underseat latches actuall hold it into place perfectly. I can totally ride it around like this until I can further think about the rear fender situation. It appears the T tank is exactly the same length as the Sport tank.
Of course I won't be able to ride until next July when the rain stops around here. :shocked:

It's tempting to ditch the rear fender altogether and attach a taillight to the fender hinge point on the seat.
