Not the bikes' valves. Time for an aortic valve replacement. Scheduled for Tues, May 10th. The good news .... it's being done at the Cleveland Clinic, the MPH/Rose Farms/Moto International of heart surgery! More good news .... the Clinic is located less than half an hour from home. If this goes anywhere near as well as the 6 bypass surgery of 15 years ago, I should be back in the saddle within 8 weeks or so, maybe less, depending on the technique they use to hold the sternum together. Staying positive on this one.
I'll have my son contact the WG board with an update after surgery .... doubt I'll feel like tickling the keyboard for a few days!

Good luck.

I've had relatives treated at that same clinic, and they've said great things about it.
Best of luck!
-
Hang in there and good luck!!
My operation was over 6 hours, and I was reading WG the next day. Hopefully, you will, too.

Yo Bob , I have a drill powered rooter  Seriously , get well , we have things to do together :thumb:

Dusty maybe we should open up a clinic, I got some purdy new scapals and some not too rusty wire. We won't have time to get er all together in time to "help" Bob, but the next guy would be in luck!

I've nutted plenty of hawgs. Maybe we can start an LLC? I offered to help Pete a few years ago, but for whatever reason he declined.

Not sure Bob is wanting that procedure

I hope all goes well Bob. Just a reminder, this months breakfast is NOT this Sunday. We'll be thinking about you.

May you have a speedy recovery and nurses of the grandest order. I am glad the mechanic says you can be rebuilt.
-
I hope that all goes well with your upcoming surgery. Modern medical science is a wonderful thing and you should sail through with no problems. Positive karma pointed in your direction.

Bob
just hope they don't have any parts left over when they put you back together.....
guess you don't have any warranty issues from the last time they went in - all the best and you will be at the best hospital for sure.

Best of Luck for a speedy recovery

Best of luck, I hear that heart valve replacements are very common and the procedure is straightforward with excellent outcomes.
Reminds me of a joke in a cycle mag I read years ago,
A heart surgeon brings his bike into a dealership, turns out the bike needs a valve job. Once the repair is finished the Surgeon returns to pick up his bike and the mechanic greets him at the register. The mechanic says to the surgeon " well I guess we are both equally skilled, I just completed your bikes valve job and report a clean bill of health". After a second or two the surgeon smiles and says "well we both replace valves but I do it while the engine is running".

best of luck, get well soon
-
Good luck, Bob! Heal quickly.

While it does sound dreadful that someone is going to be fussing around inside your chest, the operation is a relatively easy one, almost routin-, and you are having it done at what truly is a world-class setting. You'll be fine.

Hope you are headed down pit row and back onto the track real soon!

My dad had a graft to his aorta which involved sternum separation and he recovered to ride his XJ 650 Yamaha at the age of 65, so all the best to you, you sound like you have a great outlook. Huzo.

To everyone ..... thanks for all the good wishes for a speedy recovery. I found out today I'll not be 'oinking,' I'll be 'mooing.' Cow valve, not pig valve. Actually I found that the pig valve is just that .... the valve of a pig. The cow valve is manufactured from cow heart material ..... made me think of Heine Gereke jacket, for some reason.
Couple of comments:
Chuck in Indy - you are truly a glutton for punishment if you were able to look at this forum the day after surgery.
OB54 - Keep that Rotor Rooter in Okie!
John A - good idea ..... keep the rusty wire for the next guy!
John Henry - you mean Mother's Day is screwing with our breakfast again!?
Mark C - Left over parts. Hell, they used all the leftover's the first time around!
Canuck 750 - Only problem with the punch line in the joke is they don't keep the motor running. Gotta shut 'er down and do a restart.
Anyway, once again ................ you guys are a great bunch, and I loved hearing from you.

Now you can be an official Moo-to Guzzi rider. Glad to hear you're okay. :thumb: :thumb:
