Title: 2016 V7II Clutch
Post by: Bradkap on May 02, 2016, 12:08:39 PM
I have found that the clutch is nice and comfortable when the bike is cold, but after it runs for a while the clutch gets much stiffer.  Any thoughts ?  Is this just the bike's personality ?

Your comments would be appreciated.

Just FYI, I have a V7II and have not noticed that problem so may not be personality.

Could it be that as the engine heats up and expands, something is pinching the cable where it is routed from lever to trans? I know the cables on these are routed tight to begin with. Might want to check and see if something is getting pinched?

Even grease the ends & lube the cable.

I was going to say this too.

When I bought the very last V7 II Stone (and last MG sold ever) at Empire Motorsports I relayed all the clutch cable online woes lots of members were experiencing.  Their answer was "poor dealer PDI and setup".

First 400 miles mine has been perfect so far....

Visually trace the cable routing, esp its proximity to the engine.

Yes, this was a problem with earlier models.

Yes, this was a problem with earlier models.
But not a problem on the V7II, where the cable is routed differently and nowhere near the cylinder heads.

Is it routed near any hot parts?

No.  Well, I suppose it depends on what you mean by hot.  On my V7II, the cable goes more-or-less right between the cylinders and straight back to the relocated end retainer.  My cable hasn't needed any adjusting or fiddling in the 8000 mi I've ridden since the initial adjustment.

It seems possible that the clutch-actuating push rod, which goes through the length of the gearbox input shaft, is binding.  This is probably the place that gets hottest as the bike warms up.  Maybe the O-ring that normally fits into a groove inside the input shaft is dislodged or broken and the push rod is binding against it as things warm up.  Good luck.
