I'll be shipping the trike south in mid June and joining the national rally on the 24th. Since I'm essentially homeless now, I have no definite plans to return to Alaska, and no real travel route planned for America. I'll be bringing my tools with me. If folks are interested in swapping burgers and gas for guzzi tech support along the way, whatever way that is, let me know. I'll work it into the route and it could work out for both of us. At some point I'll wander into the 'right' zip code and drop anchor again. For now though I'll just be in the wind.
-
Well, that's a big step. Good luck! and may good fortune smile on you. I assume you'll have the trike at the national so you'll be easy to spot? If not, wear a carnation in your lapel or something..
-
Fortune is already smiling on me with a very evil grin. I'd just as soon it looked the other way for a while. :bike-037:
I hope to have the trike at the national, although it's not gone that sort of distance yet. If you can't pick it out of all the other homebuilt, green and black trikes there, it will be the one parked near the VW bus tent. If you can't pick it out of all the other VW bus tents there, mine will be the red one.

If you have to abandon all hope and find yourself stuck traveling through Oklahoma, there's an adult beverage in Tulsa with your name on it... :thumb:
-
I'd be delighted to buy you a burger and beer if you get to Madison. (Maybe you can consult on my T3's leaking bevel box, if it's still leaking.)
Good luck on your gypsy life. It's a dream for many of us, I imagine.

I hope everything works out for you RK. Enjoy the National Rally.
-
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new freedom.

RK,
The lower 48 has some good people. Come to Sugar Land, TEXAS and visit the Tiki Patio, kick back, have a few.
-
We could all just pass you along every few weeks to the next set of "custodial parents"....

Check your pm's

Wandering is the best way to travel. It is how I got from Ill Noise to Oregon when I was young.
The best travel is done without a destination.
-
If you make it to Sioux Falls SD I'll buy you a burger and a beer in any case. If you want to do some basic maintenance like valves etc we can upgrade that to steaks and bourbon and board.. ;)
Enjoy your travels!!
We can have a friendly discussion of all the things we disagree on and maybe even go out for a night ride to look for deer. :o
-
If you happen to be wandering through fly over country for whatever reason.. food and beer is on me. No work involved though, sorry.
-
David you know you're welcome at my campfire :thumb: come to the ozarks, we'll have some shine, run 'round barefoot listen to some banjo tunes and smoke the fatted possum :thumb:
-
Always welcome here in wisc. I've got a well equipped shop if the need arises.
-
You have a place in Massachusetts sir.
-
Hey RK. You forgot that you can offer up some good old computer tech support too!
If you get down to NM before the end of June I'll spot you the burger as well. JB claims The Library is the best place to eat in town :D :D

Words of wisdom and beauty from Jim here.
So RK,- that was your brave plan with the trike !
I only want to wish you good luck with this adventurous new chapter of your life, and also thank you for all your interesting, educative and entertaining photo essays and tales from Sitka.
You are a great story-teller. Your herring pickle story, and the one about the one-eyed boat watcher are just unforgettable examples.
With your character and variety of skills, opportunities will emerge along the way.
All the best from Scandinavia

Do let us know if you find your way down Arizona... Phoenix area.
Your thicker blood may not play well here in coming weeks, but we are having one of the best springs in 20 years, just now.
Todd.

To pile on to Chucks's flyover comments...
Spare room with a queen bed just a short way up the road from the Aero Pilot. You're welcome to it. Safe travels. Make use of that camera, who knows what could come of this chapter...

I'd say Rk needs some layovers in Washington State or Oregon.

No, none of this is part of the plan. I spent more money than I made this year on medical crap based on an overoptimistic prognosis from a doctor. Now they say I can't be fixed. I gave them literally all my money, the business went down the tubes while I was out for the medical stuff, and with the medical stuff and my age I'm unemployable. My only 'asset' is the house, and it has to go to finish paying the bills. The house is nothing by Alaska standards -- selling it won't let me get anything else up here -- so I'm going nomad as I try to find somewhere else to live.

Wayne -- my message from last night (nuked by the moderator) stands. Keep coming at me like this and there will be trouble. I've got enough trouble without your level of hateful political crap. Understood?
-
That's a sobering story! Obviously you didn't plan it this way, but I still wish you good travels and experiences. Your trike is amazing and you're obviously a very talented guy. I'm sure a lot of interesting and amazing things are in store for you on the road!

Rk, I'm sorry if I offended you. That wasn't my intent. I had no idea your real situation now and don't know what you responded back to me. I thought you just needed to layover before the National and then you were going back to Alaska. Hope to see you at the National.

I'm gobsmacked.
I wish you the very best RK and may the Road Gods watch
over you.
Maurie.

You're welcome to use my shop here in Denver if need arises. Shoot me an email if you need anything in Colorado. Dennis

While these barbarians are offering you burgers my place has armadillo gumbo, venison, catfish, perch etc. i'm the third house on the right past the No Clap Lap Dance Club.

"No clap"? I've been to some tough bars over the years, but ...

Tough competition as far as luring RK to other locales. Too bad "No Crabs - No Grabs" burned down down here. I wonder at the "No Clap..." is there a sheet of saran wrap on the recipient to cover the claim?
Todd.

I have no idea what situation Rk might be looking for to resettle, but maybe somewhere on the Wash. or Oregon coast would be to his liking since it would be somewhat to his Alaska environs. :undecided:

Maybe less mosquitos? :boozing:
Sounds like he's just gonna be a bit footlose but the Pacific Northwest would fit the bill I should think.
Todd.

While I'm not immediately ready for guests, I should be by the time the temps in Lost Wages begin to become tolerable. Keep it in mind...
-
I appreciate all of the good thoughts and offers. I will no doubt be dropping in on some of you as I wander about. I want to be useful if I do. Don't worry, Wayne -- AZ has no appeal for me.
I'm trying to look at this as an opportunity, although so far it doesn't seem like one. Every time I try to write about it, it seems even less so. But the only thing scarier than leaving is staying.
-
RK,
You might compare notes with Crusty. He has 'downsized' and wanders a lot as well. Based in MA IIRC.
-
Our place is your place in Iowa for as long as you need. Stay, build a stake, make the break you need. Been there survived that RK. Whether our politics align or not, ( I have no idea) if I can help meet your needs, I will.
-
A small suggestion. keep a journal. I have always regretted not keeping a journal on my adventures. This has the makings of a book. Good luck to you on your travels! Do stop by if you wander through Sioux Falls.
-
But the only thing scarier than leaving is staying.
RK, Sorry to read about your troubles. Good luck.
PS. Is it me, or is there quiet a few song lyrics in this thread?
-
I agree about the journal, especially since RK has a way with words. Photos would be good too ;)
Follow Hemingway's example, "Old Man and the Trike"

Well poop. At least you are still smart enough to avoid Arizona (truth be told there are parts that are quite nice, especially the eastern side above the Rim).
Ya, do a take on Danial K. and try some On the Road segments. Or cut to the chase and just be Charles Kuralt....
Good luck, sounds like you wouldn't turn it down. :^) If you get close I may be able to swing by for an intersect; I'm sure there is some Guzzi wisdom worth a burger or two for me.
I'm a bit partial to Missoula Montana myself, with some smaller towns also appealing. Safe travels.
-
...... and if you find yourself this side of the Ocean I'm sure my good lady could be persuaded to put a strange man with a 3 wheel Guzzi up for a couple of nights (psss if you like dogs you'll be fine)
Good luck though you have plenty of country to get at over there in the USA!
