Title: Tank Venting and simplification of hoses.
Post by: bdlwet1 on May 05, 2016, 02:17:11 PM
2001 California Special-  got rid of my evap canisters and joined the hoses back in 2013........so I get a leak this winter  in seam of tank and think .....might be a good time for cleaning up the rest of Frame oriented emission control system.....find that fuel line on pump goes to vent filtrations system ere it travels to inlet of fuel/air mix on fuel injection system.  Put plug in vent and motorcycle runs spottily and feels fuel starved . taking it apart again today.
My question is...if I get rid of all the venting/emission hoses, plug all the holes in frame recapture and just split fuel from pump directly to inj fuel/air mix at throttle body.  Will it run OK ?  maybe my next  motorcycle should be 1969 era ?

You'll want to keep the crankcase vent hooked to the frame...

And make sure something you think is a vent line isn't actually a fuel return line.

I'm having trouble following you, but the Evaporative Emissions System should have an exploded view in the owners manual and shop manual, if you want to see exactly what it entails...

Have looked at that emission diagram.....No I was just trying to simplify the excess insanity under the tank and clean it up Cannot understand why vapor recapture is necessary....I don't think we, (motorcyclists), are the big emitters out there

You need to study up on the system a little more before you tinker with it.  What you are describing shows a complete misunderstanding of what you're looking at.

You can thank California's C.A.R.B. for the evaporative emissions canisters on motorcycles.

To make it easier on inventory, many small European makers (like Guzzi and Ducati) have, since 1998, imported only "50-State Legal" machines into the USA.

No need to get more political than that.  It's just the way it is.

Please do some more research before just pulling and plugging everything under the tank.  It will save you lots of hassles down the road.
