I'm planning on changing the black plastic tank on my 2011 V7 Racer to a later model metal one from a European-spec 2012 V7 Stone. Looking for confirmation of my assumptions before I purchase parts.
Based on my reading:
- only two tanks available for V7's, a 15L plastic and 22L metal
- both tanks are interchangeable on the bobbins and frame fixing bolt. The metal tank is wider.
- the fuel pump, P/N B063752, is transferable as it is specified for both early and late V7 models
- the filler cap is transferable from the plastic to the metal, even though there was a new stamped-metal filler cap used on later tanks
- old rear strap won't fit on the metal tank and may need to be adapted or changed.
- pump position has changed on the metal tank and needs to have the fuel line adapted to the new position
Thanks.

Accords with my understanding - certainly the internal pump position has changed, tho have the connectors?

Different pump, different hoses and a few other bits as well from memory.

This listing on AF1's website confirms this:

Ok, appreciate the feedback.
I must be used to German engineered bikes where the manufacturer uses a completely different part number for a completely different assembly. Maybe this doesn't hold true for Italian manufacturers. I looked up the pump P/N (same for both the AF1 link above and the one I first quoted) on Fowler's interactive parts catalogue (https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/search/part/B063752#). It lists multiple linked models which lead me to believe the same assembly is used on several models through several model years, including through the change from plastic to metal tank.
In any case, I now know what I need for the conversion.

The pump may be the same, but, the metal "cover" that it bolts to, which attaches to the tank and covers a big hole is most likely different.
I would think that the most cost effective way of doing this conversion, is to find an undamaged tank, with pump, cover, etc, from a salvaged bike (eBay?).

Got it. The pump in the 2011 V7 with plastic tank is P/N 978930. The pump in V7 with metal tank is P/N B063752. Apparently two different parts and maybe Fowler's interactive catalogue is incorrect.
You're right Jas; I'll keep an eye out for a used tank with pump from a breaker's yard.

Watch Pinwall Cycles, they seem to break a lot of Guzzis.
