Seems fine to me. Excess is not in the way of anything, as far as I know.

That will cause the mirrors to vibrate and things will start falling off. Seriously I'm sure it's fine

It'll crack your CARC

So no exhaust leaks?

If a shorter one was on hand and would do the job, then yes - it's too long.
If not, and this one did the job, then it's just right!
-
I've had 1 a tad shorter just to see if it ever moved. At the same time before I got around to adding a hose clamp, when I went to replace a filter it wasn't even finger tight.
-
Hose clamps that are too long make your butt look too big.
-
It only needs to be long enough to get around the filter and a karma bell. But I can't see the excess hurting anything.
-
Lets ask our own Guzzi factory expert and quantum mechanic, Knuckles Dragini, his opinion!

As long as it's not at the end of it's adjustment, it'll be fine. You could always cut some of the excess off if it bothers you or you want the weight reduction...
-
Wrap it in duct tape.

The excess length will start creating a harmonic imbalance of the sump. That vibration will work it's way up the crankcase to the transmission where you will feel it as tingling in the toes.
You can stop the vibration by dragging your toes on the pavement repeatedly. This will wear down just enough of your boot to upset the harmonics.
Once that happens the bike will run smoothly.
If you fail to wear off a specific amount of rubber from the boot the harmonics will increase until the hose clamp breaks, sending pieces of metal through the oil filter, leading to catastrophic engine failure.
(in case you could not tell, this is in jest) :)
-
Too long?
Nope, You probably dropped the other one when you opened your retention kit. There's another 3/8 inch clamp to hold down the excess of the first clamp and then if you look carefully - there's a zip-tie for further securing that one and a U.N. seal to ensure no tampering...

Come on guys, be serious. A bigger filter is the solution.

I will do this quick before the harmonics cause an exhaust leak. Or worse, cavitation in the oil pump! :boozing:

Am I the only one immature enough to think that the title of this topic is an open-invitation for answers in poor-taste, such as "Only if your hose is too short."?

I was thinking: "If you're using a clamp, you're probably doing it wrong" but then, that could be Guzzi content even in an off-color scenario.
"What, hell, I don't need that, got me a hose clamp out in the garage that'll do just fine... after I clean it up a bit."

Many unwanted pregnancies can be traced to an over sized hose clamp , but for this application you should be ok.

The short answer Cam is no, they don't.
BUT......it is a little known fact that the whole reason the CARCs have external filters is that if someone were to put too long a clamp on the filter it would cause catastrophic deCARCerization. Nobody wants that now, do they?

Has it been four hours?
It's not a side effect - it's a scheduling conflict.
