One of the grips on my EVT is starting to split. I have the stock heated grips.
Can I just use standard replacement rubber type grips like I would on my old bikes, or is there a special rubber used in the stock grip?
I did do a search on this, and came up with grip puppies and another version of it. I could not find anything about if I can use just regular grips.
I checked the guzzi parts diagram for the grips alone. Looks like they only sell the rubber and the heater as a unit.
Thank you,
Tom

FWIW
The "rubber" grip for a cricket bat handle was doing me nicely.

Aw crud, no I gotta look up what is used on a " cricket bat handle"
I assume it's a wrap like a golf club or tennis racket.
Thanks for the idea!

I've replaced mine a couple of times with normal grips. Actually, I used foam grips. Yes, that insulates them a bit, but I like the comfort.
BUT, you have to realize that the LEFT grip is also on a tube, like the throttle grip. So you have to buy TWO sets, throw away the normal left 7/8 inch grip, and use the two 1 inch throttle grips.
Use care when removing the old, and installing the new ones. The foil heater under the grip is likely fragile.

The heat is more of a novelty to me. Used it twice to see if it did any good. Was neat, but I do have heavy gloves.
So I can use just normal rubber grips. From the search I understood that I would need two sets, I can work with that. Or maybe just go with the grip puppy or the like.
So the foil heater... Is it like a piece of loose aluminum foil, or is it more solid and glued on? to install standard grips just lube with WD40 and slide on..OR...??
Thank you,
Tom

The 'foil' heater is a thin piece of plastic. It has aluminum plated to it. Rivets for the wire contact. That plastic/foil is glued to the plastic tube under the grip. It may come loose or get damaged if you aren't careful.
For lube, I spray the inside of the grip with a lot of hair spray. Then, when it dries, the grip sticks. Works pretty well, but a lot of rides in the rain may loosen it up.

Well I have filleted a few fish in my life, so I'll have to fillet a grip off.
I just wanted to make sure that if I used a "normal" rubber grip that it would not go into some sort of melt down gluing my fingers to the grip if I ever turn the heat on.
I'm still kinda looking at the grip puppy thingies. They look like they might be comfy?
Thank you for your help!
