Out to test a new map so not far from home, I pull up and out of a yield sign merge into traffic with near WOT and go to shift into second, nothing. Can't even depress shift lever with my heel. Oh crap cars behind me are catching up, I get it into neutral and try again, nothing. I get a chance to look down in the dim light and to my surprise the craftsman handle is peering up at me, stuck between the chrome foot board decorative piece right under the shifter.
This is not the first time I have left tools on my bike while out for a ride.

A friend of mine was going down the road after working on his SP and looked at alternator at a stoplight, allen wrench still spinning around after a mile or so.

I think I have issues but you guys are making me feel better about myself.

I remember going to work one evening seeing sparks from the vw bus ahead of me. It was dragging a battery charger.

I'd like to tell you how many times I've seen that allen wrench spinning in the crank of my airhead after a points/timing adjustment, but I can't count that high.
At work, I saw a guy pull a car off the alignment rack with one head still attached to a wheel. Made it more than a mile down the road.

Maybe the moderators can merge this thread with the recent one titled "Encouraging Maintenance Posts"
My most recent "maintenance gone wrong" experience was re-installing a rear wheel and getting the brake disk between the back of the inner pad and the caliper instead of between the pads. I fixed it, for the price of a new caliper and a new brake disk. Next time, I'll try to be more careful.
