Title: Memorial Day rememberance...
Post by: JJ on May 27, 2016, 10:06:59 AM
As you run around and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, please take a moment to silently thank and reflect on all the men and women who died, proudly serving our country, so we all can enjoy the freedom we know today...Home of the free...because of the brave...

Not to nit pick but Memorial Day is to remember the fallen. Those who have or are serving are remembered on Veteran's Day.

Yes, Happy memorial day. And thanks to all the men and women that gave their lives for our freedom!

Here's a little WWII memorabilia from The Black Devil's who liberated Italy.

I'm also going to nit pick, "Happy" and "Memorial Day" are mutually exclusive terms, as least for those who lost brothers in combat.

It is a very dark and somber occasion for most combat vets.

My dad and his four brothers who served in Europe never talked about the war. On Memorial Day it was a family gathering, but the five men would quietly gather together for a drink and a tear.

Most real veterans who lived thru the war don't want to talk about it................t hey want to put it behind them forever.  I had an early Vietnam Marine friend who told me some of what he went thru in the early years and it messed him up for life mentally.  My father survived it in B-17s but he didn't talk about it much.   I survived Vietnam in the Navy but didn't go near the hell others did in that same war.

Cambodia and Laos here , and no , don't want to talk about it . However , it seems OK to me if a bit of celebrating goes on , otherwise what was the point . Just my .02 worth , carry on .

Satellite TV is a good place to get war stories now if 1 is interested in them.   I'm usually not.   But I finally got the real story about Lt. Calley in Vietnam not too long ago.

Spent the day touring the Saratoga Battlefield National Park. Excellent presentation about one of the pivotal events of the American Revolution.

My son and I at my fathers burial site, Memphis National Cemetery.  1SG Jose A. Roman, multiple Bronze Stars (Korea, Vietnam), Purple heart (Korea), Army Commendation Medal.  Passed three years ago.  Scouts place a flag at all 46,000 graves each Memorial Day.  Joe always places the flag at Dad's.

Out here.   The scouts gather and distribute 36,000 flower leis to be placed on each grave.  Huge task.
