I am about to replace the fork dampers with a pair of FACs in my 35 mm SP forks.
How high off the ground do I need to raise the bike to slip the lower legs off from the bottom?
I realize that I don't really need to remove the lower legs, but I am also replacing the torn rubber gaiters on the slider tubes.
Will the center stand alone along with a floor jack to raise the oil sump be enough to allow removal of the wheel and the lower fork legs?
I have a frame hydraulic lift, which I have used to crab the frame, but I find it very unsafe to use: placing it under the sump makes the bike unbalanced, especially if one of the wheels is removed; but it is especially scary to use when lowering it: no adjustability is provided, and as soon as the release pedal control is touched, the bike drops to the floor instantly!
So, I'd rather raise the front end just enough to slip the lower legs off....
Any advice from you suspension experts?

Put the bike on the center stand, block it up as if you were removing the front wheel, then remove the front wheel. That should be fine, I use a bottle jack and a piece of wood.
