Title: 1200 Sport Dash issues
Post by: Rosso Woody on June 02, 2016, 06:29:01 AM
The dash will work when you turn the bike on and let it idle. When you take off with the bike the LCD starts to go out and eventually is blank.

Is there something else wrong or do I need a new dash? There is an upgraded dash part number for the metric but not for the US version

Have you tried unplugging it, plug it back in. May be dead.

With ALL of the Digitek dashes it's worth trying the trick of disconnecting the battery and then turning on the ignition and leaving it for a bit, (I suggest overnight but fifteen minutes might be long enough, I don't know.). This allows the capacitors that power the junk storage to discharge completely and next time the battery is connected and the ignition turned on the dash appears to re-boot often clearing these sorts of BS errors.

No guarantees but worth a crack!

That's exactly how the dash on my Breva 1100 was when it went bad.   Eventually, it didn't even work all the time on first key on.

Time to source a replacement.   I had found an unused replacement for mine on eBay.    That one lasted 7K miles until it failed the same way.    The used replacement that I got after that was still working when I sold the bike.

OK Pete I will try that but looks like I will have to source a replacement. ..just was not sure if the bike will stop if the dash goes out due to the immobilizer

I have a used 2008 1200S dash for sale. some where around 18,800 miles on the ODO. It was a replacement for the stock dash which failed at about 10,000 miles. One of many left over from my 1200S/Griso project. Asking price is 50% of retail

I'd like to tell you that Carmo could fix this, but if the LCD screen is messed up then that won't work. You could always drop them a line and see if they have a replacement available yet but I know jas67 did not have the best time with them.

Don't limit yourself to just checking American sources. You may be able to find a metric dash overseas. This will be a pain but you can swap the metric gauge face for the standard one from your existing dash. I say this like it should be no problem but have to admit I would be apprehensive.

Bob (Ohiorider) has his 1200 Sport dash at Carmo at the moment (I think) and is using a Breva dash he bought from jas67. So it appears as though the standard Breva 1100 dash will work with the 1200 Sport as well, it just won't look as awesome (unless you change the gauge face).

A word to the wise, NEVER let your instrument panel get wet.  I'm on my third one.  I always cover it with a plastic bag when washing the bike.  After I moved from Oregon to San Diego a lot of the condensation problems ended.  Go figure!

Part of the fix from Carmo was a good waterproofing job of the electronics in the dash. I've now had the repaired dash in longer than the original and I don't give it a second thought.

Yep ...... It's coming home, unrepaired.  Mine was unrepairable (LCD shot.)  Carmo offered to provide a used, repairable unit that they would repair.  Cost was going to be over $400 for repairable dash plus repairs.  At the moment, the unit I purchased from Jas67 works ok, especially since I won't be riding for what may be several months (optimistically) due to complications from aortic valve surgery.  I did get some miles on the Jas67 dash prior to surgery, and I was happy with it.

Regards,

Bob

Correct, I did NOT have a good experience with Carmo.

Thought they advertise services in the US, they don't do any actual work there.
They will charge your a lot of $$ for shipping to their Switzerland facility too.

I didn't find this out until after I shipped it to them in California.

Long story short, it cost me several hundred $$ for nothing.

Then, to get my unit back, I had to pay for shipping from Switzerland to California, and then from California to Pennsylvania.     Why they couldn't ship directly from Switzerland to me, I don't understand.

Your unit has a bad LCD module.  Carmo can not fix it.
