Going to look at a 2008 Norge. Before I go I want to ask if these have the four valve heads? Hope they are two valve! I'm a bit rusty on Norge specs.
Thanks!

BMWDavid,
You're in luck, the 2008 Norge has 2-valve heads. It is about 20% down on power versus the 2011+ Norge. However, there are many here that prefer the first gen Norge. I have a 2012 model and absolutely love it. It feels like what I think a sport-touring bike should feel like. I actually prefer it to my former 2012 BMW K1600GTL and my existing 2014 BMW R1200RT. Good luck with the hunt.

Thank you...I thought the '08's were the last year for the two valve heads. We'll see what the bike looks like.

My '09 is also 2 valve...

If it's red that's a big plus!

Red is definitely 10-20 mph faster! :evil:

Hello;
I have had a Red 2V Norge. It is a great bike.. pulls great super torque. I now have a White 8VGT.. It does have better Top end .. and there clearly is a bump at 5K but it is also smooth and pulls great. Either will run at 80 MPH all day, everyday, and you wouldn't know the difference .. The 8V is a bit quicker, but not by much... Have FUN with your new Norge...

For those that prefer the 2V, what was the reason? I have the '14 4V. Just curious.

My 2008 2-valve has 110,000+ on it now, so you should be fine. :grin:
The reds may be slightly faster (for the average rider), but the silver has more style.

Thanks to all for the replys. Going to call the seller and make plans to look at the bike. Sorry to say its not red...I wish it was. Its black with a tan seat.

I think the fastest models are the black with red heads aka testarossa;)
I remember asking Vasco once about the longevity of these engines and I believe the answer was that they may need a valve job around 100,000. How is yours doing? Has it been opened up yet?

The 2v appealed more to me because of its simplicity and reputation for reliability. I like how it feels like an old world motor in a modern bike. The 4v is supposed to be a better engine by every measure. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted as they say.

I'll be curious to hear your thoughts after you give the Norge a test ride. Especially curious how you'll compare it to your FJR 1300es. My 2013 Norge will be going up for sale soon out of Cleveland Moto. It has a brand new motor, brand new tires, K n N air filter, side bags and top case and clip on tank bag and only a bit over 15k miles.
