While the article does break out excise taxes from other major types, it is missing some context. For example, some of the states listed with 'high' gas taxes also have no personal income tax and sometimes no or little corporate income tax (for example, Nevada is in there). The money has to come from somewhere, so we in Nevada pay high fees (don't call them taxes, say the conservatives) for everything from vehicle registration and accessing government services to state park entry and camping.

The article also doesn't provide many details on whether taxes are used for things like roadway construction and repair, although some environmental or 'cleanup' taxes are noted. Interesting, though, even if limited.

Ct is on that list and we have sales tax income tax high prop erty taxes yearly motor vehicle taxes. Hell they even double tax income tax refunds
The politicians have to get the money somewhere; votes are expensive

We have an excise tax.  4% on goods and services.  Everything.  Funny thing is that this includes local governments having to pay to the State too.
