Title: red light on rev counter, even when turned off
Post by: x7 on June 17, 2016, 04:51:28 PM
Hi Chaps, need some help. I've got a ~12 year old 750 Nevada Classic IE. For various reasons it had to stand outside for a few days during heavy rain. Now there's a permanent red light on, on the rev counter. Even when the ignition is off and key removed. Also the steering lock hasn't engaged even though the key is set to "lock". Bike will turn over but not start.
When I got the bike a few weeks back the battery was flat, but this red light wasn't there. I presume its a warning re the charging circuit, but why is it on with the ignition off? Note its NOT the oil pressure light, nor the EFI light. I'll take the battery out and charge it over the weekend, but is there something else I need to look at? I see there was a similar thread for this problem back in 2011, but no resolution was ever given - see http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=45702.0

If you have the service manual look on page 5-4 it is the pinout for the dash,  a lite should have a pin unless it is an internal wired one.
Good time to get software & cables, GuzziDiag  would tell you what's up.

battery was flat, probably discharged in the rain (it really was heavy)
took it out, charged it, left the bike to dry out for a week, replaced it and now all seems OK.
Presumably either a low voltage or charging circuit warning.
Why the heck aren't these things documented? Can't see it in the manual anywhere

Could be it was added after the print. It was Aprilia in charge then. Then they came out w/a different dash.
