Title: Lemans III to V (1000) Exhaust Swap
Post by: petown on June 17, 2016, 07:12:17 PM
Just a quick note to confirm that the entire Lemans III exhaust system, including crossover, does fit on a Lemans V.  I came across commentary somewhere that the crossover wouldn't work on the V - that wasn't the case on my bike, anyway.  I swapped out the stock black V system for the chrome III system earlier today.

How does the Le Mans 1000 run with the LM 850 system installed? Were any other modifications done or anticipated? ...carb jetting, timing,...?

Will have some jets in the mail tomorrow so I'll hopefully know something yet this weekend.

Sorry for the late reply, Bob.
This is only my second ride on the bike, about 100 miles.  I swapped out slides, needles, mains and pilots per what another poster, who rode at similar altitude (7,000 - 8,500 ft), had suggested some time back.
Overall, the bike runs a lot better - I can't say what the exhaust contribution is, if any.  Dimensionally the mufflers are near identical until the end caps - same exit diameter, though.  Head-pipes carry the same part numbers from 850 to 1000.
I still have some work to do as I am stumbling off idle and have a major flat spot around 4500 rpm.  I can pull through to redline, though.

when I read the title, I thought you meant a V1000 I-Convert... The answer is yes...

After a lot of experimentation with different slides, needles and jets I finally arrived at a setup that seems to work well with the higher altitude riding I do 90% of the time.  It ended up remarkably close to Ed Milich's recommendations from several years ago.  Again, my bike is stock other than pod filters and the 850 LM exhaust system.

50/3 slides
128 main jets
65 pilot jets
266 AB needle jets
K4 needles set to top groove (leanest)
