I was reading something other than Catholic Digest and Hustler when I read about Nowhere, OK. Told Beaver and it was one of our destinations on the way to John Day, OR.
Slapout is a town in the panhandle that got its name when the owner of the general store always said he was slap out of what you wanted. Wally Bishop, longtime Guzzi friend broke down there about 40 years ago. The building that has a small store and bays for repairing vehicles looks new. They have their own zip code. Pop is 6 or 8.
Of course, we had to go to the bustling town of Beaver. Beaver took a picture of B ig Beaver. Look on a map and you'll see it is a long way from Beaver, OK to Beavers Bend.

Hope you made it through Hooker also.

I've been to slapout on the way to black Mesa ok

Actually Slapout is located just East of the panhandle

Does the Catholic Digest have a centerfold?
-
Just past fort supply which is a pretty cool historical place.
-
I've been to Nowhere before. It's right next to Joe Eish's place with his place closer to the middle.
-
I just rode through Slapout about 10 days ago. A friend and I were coming back from a mountain tour of Colorado and stopped there for gas. We lucked out by riding under the cloud cover of a nearby thunderstorm and beat the heat!
-
Glider. I'll put Hooker on my bucket list.
Jim Rich. I only read Catholic Digest so don't know about the centerfold.
I've been to Joe Eish's place three times and couldn't get there again without a guide.
Dusty. Slapout is near the panhandle. Did you know there is a Dusty WA? We were close to it.

One badass nun. She has a "get back" ruler hanging from her bars.

They were actually open and had gas?
About half the time I ride past there, it's closed. So, I've never planned it as a fuel stop.

Are we talking the store at the very West end of Slapout ? It has always been open during normal hours when I have been through there . Even the "Mercantile" located in Kenton has been in somewhat regular operation for years now , and believe it or not , Kenton is WAAAAYYY more remote than Slapout  Actually Mike , you know that , having been through Kenton at least once .

I didn't know there was a town of Speed in Victoria, Australia. We've got one in Kansas, too.

Going down the road here bout 15 miles away and I look at the sign, it says "Between" !! Only in GA! So, I hope I don't get stuck in Between, might just be the twilight zone.

Yeah. Slapout is on US-412 at a junction, a relatively well-traveled route. On more than one occasion when I've passed through there, the store at the junction is closed.
Same thing at Elmwood

The poor tiny state of RI can't compete with OK for place names, but I will offer up our esteemed Middle Of Nowhere Diner:

Assawoman Virginia
Assawoman is an unincorporated community in Accomack County, Virginia. Its ZIP code is 23302. Assawoman was originally known as Assawaman until 1966

We have a town called Hope, east of Vancouver, of course if you go past there
Texas Turnip & Beaver, I had no idea we were in such company when we stopped for lunch on the way to JD
Great Ruben sandwich.

I think you are referring to the junction just East of Slapout , and yes , that store isn't open on any regular basis . The newer store on the West side is pretty busy .
Oh , and to correct myself from earlier , yes Turnip , Slapout is just barely in the panhandle . I have sat out a couple of big T storms in the little village , and also shot a gap in a line of storms that required doing 100 MPH for a few miles to clear . Amazing country , kind of a unique
landscape inhabited by some very resilient people .

Few place names have the melodious ring of "Toad Suck, Arkansas." Of course there's a Harley dealership there. I don't know how many bikes they sell, but they do a booming T-Shirt business.

Don't forget Dime Box, TX...

Went through Humptulips on our way down the Olympic Peninsula last week.
Been to Knob Lick KY. Got a funny story there but not for this forum.

French Lick, Indiana. Our main N/S interstate is I 69..

South Bend is north of North Vernon. In Miami county, Indiana, there is a village between the villages of Denver and Chili called Tin Cup. The county also has a town called Mexico.

Then there is Gay Oklahoma , along with Straight Oklahoma , and just to keep everyone a bit confused , the is Non Oklahoma and a burg named simply I X L  Yep , makes the Indian place names like Tahlequah, and Weleetka make sense

Kansas, OK. The only place I have received a ticket on my T-3. Almost two miles out of town by the town cop for 54 in what was an unmarked 45. He said it is 45 for two miles. This was back in the 55mph max days.

I travel through "Little" Kansas several times a year , yes , it was a speed trap until the state implemented the shared revenue plan , kind of put an end to most of the local shenanigans .
Dusty
-
Yeah. Had a friend stopped there. Northbound on OK-10 into little Kansas. There is a rise south of town and people come zooming over that rise, and there's the town cop sitting in plain sight.
He had gotten behind the group and was trying to catch up. We were all sitting in the gas station at the junction, watching him zoom up to the stop sign, quickly followed by the town cop.
Great entertainment at his expense!

I thought of another....What Cheer, IA
-
Then there's the motorcycle-friendly town of Texas in Queensland. On the current trip, we fuelled up at Cocklebiddy on the Nullabor, then camped that night at Domblegabby. We visited Coober Pedy, the opal mining town. The name comes from the aboriginal "Kupa piti" meaning "white man in hole". Apt.

I've been to Middlesex, Intercourse and Blueball. Uh.....not in that order either.
-
More than a few of us have been to Blue Ball, I reckon...

Guy from New Jersey walks into a Tastee Freez in Nacogdoches TX , walks to the counter and asks the young lady "How do you pronounce the name of this place"? The young lady replies

I'm on vacation in Taos NM. And saw a couple about my age wearing OU attire. I said hello and greetings and where we in Oklahoma we are from. And they replied:

A few years ago, coming home from Randy Tefft's first New Hampshire State Rally, I went through Texas and Mexico, New York. I made the mistake of calling home (Texas) and telling family I rode all the way through Texas and somehow ended up in Mexico. That got 'em all worried! Beaver

Love Black Mesa , from there on West is some truly rugged country , Just don't get on highway 456 in New Mexico after a long rain  Amazing how much Oklahoma changes from my little corner in NE Oklahoma to the Black Mesa/Kenton area .
Dusty

Yeah. That's some pretty country... This is "the highway" west of Kenton, in New Mexico...
