He just texted me a picture of "first roll out." He found it last fall laying on it's side in a barn after being in a slow speed crash. Neglected for years. This Winter, he brought it down and we spent a couple of very enjoyable (to me) weekends rebuilding the transmission and in general going through it mechanically. We work very well together. :) At any rate, the body work was pretty broken up, and he's spent a lot of spare time repairing and painting, etc.
The boy does nice work. :thumbs:

That looks great! I really like the white wheels with the red fork and fender. Though a b**ch to keep clean, I'm going to go the same way with my lemans se wheels.

Yeah, that rear u joint will be flinging grease all over that rear wheel, but he likes white wheels. :)

:grin: Thanks for that. I'll gar un tee that it'll look better in the flesh than in the picture. The Kid used to do custom painting back in another lifetime. Fortunately, he got out of the trade before he was in it long enough to have health issues. I hope. :smiley: Airplane mechanics live longer..

Got a message saying, "50 miles in, nothing fell off yet or leaks. :thumb: Needs tune and clutch adjustment. Speedo off 20 mph with trans gear swap. Probably run it over to Iowa next weekend. :grin:

Told him, Yeah, the spineys are the last of the *real* Guzzis. A little crude, but music to a gearhead..
So. Is there a speedo drive gear he could swap out?

He could always get a Speedhut gauge and ditch the factory unit. They can custom make the face plate so it will look very close to the factory speedo. Under $200 and they have a GPS version as well.Info here: http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=82693.0
Mounting it may be a little tricky, but the two of you have enough skills to figure it out. I'd be willing to help out as well.

Plus 1 on the Speedhut, they make nice stuff
I went with a pulse input speedo and a home made sensor on the gearbox.

A headsup, don't get the reset button thru the glass, the rear mounted button is the way to go.
The tacho only uses the button for initial setup.

Well, he's not only an A&P, he also carries an Inspection Authorization. :smiley: But that has nothing to do with it. Think about it. Run it normally on the right petcock. When it hits reserve, you can keep it running with the throttle while you turn on the left petcock. There will be fuel in the other side. Very handy in traffic.
Don't use the Guzzi crossover though. They can pull apart with vibration, dump fuel on your rear tire, and cause a nasty crash and burn. Don't ask me how I know. :smiley: Use the dual banjos..

Just for kicks I drill out and smooth the internals of those dual banjos. They probly flow well enough without that but in the dead of winter ........ I also fabricate some support for the carbs so they don't sag.
Third gear must be fun on that!

<blushing> Thanks, but he's a natural. When he was just a pup, I was building a street rod with a Ford rear end, and had a bag of shoes, springs, adjusters, etc. I was trying to figure out where everything went, and he walked by and said, "That part goes on the other side." He was right.. <shrug> :smiley:

Is the speedo reading high or low? Make sure the cable is well lubed and tight on each end...easy to cross thread those at the speedometer end.
I do have an extra speedo drive gear (at the tranny side) from a 6 speed V11S gearbox if he'd like to try that.
