I love visiting places like that. Neat stuff to see without all the people. Thanks for the pics!

I heard you had trike issues. I guess everything must be OK now. Did you get to see the Dredge over there??? That's pretty cool to see also. Hope to see you in the Deep Forest and the Broken Arrow Rendezvous.

Yeah, Steve -- spun the flywheel off in Government Camp outside Portland.  Sheared the bolts.  It's good now.  Matt hauled me down the hill and fled to the beach leaving me the dogs and a puddle of ATF.  I'm hanging out in Vancouver waiting for my new t-trees to arrive before scampering off again.

Dunno about deep forest yet.  I'm also looking at Iowa.  I'll see what Matt's plan is when they return from the beach.

No, I missed the dredge.  We have lots in Alaska -- stuck in every creek and pond.  So trains are more exciting to me.  I got about 60 pics of that steamer graveyard.  It's a good way to spend the afternoon, and part of the reason I generally don't ride in groups.

That's a good point.  Do you suppose there was a standard handbook on building dredges when mining for gold?

I've seen a dozen or so dredges.  Although they all follow a general pattern, I've not seen any two alike.  Their real commonality is that they were hauled up in pieces and assembled when the miners had money.  they were abandoned n place when the money ran out.

In Calif. dredges have been used to deepen rivers from winter sand runoff with melting snow so boats can still traverse.

Different dredges.  The army corps of engineers is tasked with keeping channels in navigable waters cleared.  A gold dredge's job is the opposite -- tear it up and spit it out.
