Here's the deal, I am 1500 miles into a 6-7K trip. Rollerized the Big Girl last fall, installed John's map in Jan. The bike runs great. Valves at .006/.008". I am only getting 30-32 mpg on this trip. This crappy mileage will not hurt the trip but I believe I probably did something wrong when I re-mapped...maybe missed a step or something. Lambas are disabled and removed. No trouble codes. If there is anyone with Guzzidiag in Reno or within 150 miles of Quincy Ca I could stop by for a second opinion. Email me at pyoungbl at aol dot com, or cell is seven five seven three seven seven six six seven two. Thanks, Peter Y.

How much weight are you carrying?
-
I'm told the Stelvio uses less gas at higher revs (gear down)
-
I normally ran 39-42 MPG with my (everything stock) Stelvio regardless of the weight I was carrying or the speed I was running. I suspect Peter's lower mileage is the result of the re-mapping and other changes that were made to the engine control systems.
-
If you are going by the MPG numbers on the dash, good luck with that.
After a remap, mine isn't even close. It often indicates over 50MPG. Yet I am as normal, closer to 40MPG.

Hey, Big Guy.
I thought you road tested that thing on several small trips and your mileage wasn't too bad with that new map???
If you all are haulin a$$, the poor mileage doesn't surprise me. Mine drops to low 30's when I'm doing 80 and 90 MPH cruising.
I've noticed that it yields better fuel economy when I use premium fuel. I get maybe 2-3 mpg better.
Maybe you should go back to your Rexxer map.
Nothing is hurting your motor. If it's running good, I'd leave it alone for the trip and deal with tweaking the map when you get home. You start screwing with it on the road and you may create some issue worse than the extra fuel you're using.

I hope the ride rekindles enthusiasm for the Stelvio. It is a handful in the garage tho.

I am probably too far south for you Peter but I'm heading out tomorrow and will have the cables and computer with GuzziDiag on my Stelvio. I'm using John's map as well so I can at least report back my results.

My route. I should be in Big Pine, Ca tomorrow night then Cedar City Ut on Thursday and in Colorado on Friday.

Peter, I usually get at least in the high thirties, so the numbers you mentioned do sound low. Having said that, there's nothing you can do wrong when loading the map. You could try bumping the CO trim down to +8, although that would probably only benefit slower speed riding. Also, don't forget to factor in the speedo correction.
At the end of the day it probably is simply a combination of two things.
1) Fully loaded with side cases and cruising at high speed.
2) Running at a steady speed at 13.4:1 AFR will inevitably use more fuel than a closed fuel map at 14.7:1.
I like the way 13.4 feels and runs and under most curcumsatances it still gives me reasonable to good fuel consumption. But there's no escaping the fact that it is a richer mixture than at Lambda.

Thanks for all the feedback. I probably have 75 lbs of gear. We are running in the 70-75 mph range, with bursts to 80s. Temp today hit 100 so the bike is fully warmed! My mileage has been from 29 to 32, mostly right at 30. On one recommendation I disconnected the battery for a lunch stop. I have not put on enough miles since gassing up but I think there might be some improvement. Tomorrow we should hit Durango, Ouray, Delores, and maybe Silverton. All my mileage is calculated from gallons used vs miles on the odo. Fwiw, my speedo now reads within 1 mph of the gps...good job John!

I'm probably not much help, but when Scoot Richmond did my tappets, they also downloaded the latest "map" from Guzzi, and I don't know what that is- it's whatever Guzzi would recommend to a dealer to download onto a 2009 Stelvio in May of 2016.
At any rate, we immediately went on a 2500 mile trip through Virginia, NC, SC, GA, AL, and TN, with a friend and his son riding the bike. They weigh (geared up) about 450 pounds together, and had maybe 60 pounds of luggage.
PRIOR TO the change, the bike averaged 40.5 MPG with a big load on it, and the information display said the same. AFTER the change, the bike averaged 46 MPG by fuel/odo measurement, with the information display showing 53 MPG.
I'm happy with the mileage, that's for sure. Maybe have Scoot Richmond take a look when you get home ....

Update: I have run four tanks of gas through since the battery disconnect. The mpg figures were 35, 37.4, 33.5 and 35.6. Nothing else changed except higher altitude. Now I have the kind of range I need for this trip, and the bike is running great. I am happy and will just continue to enjoy the trip. Thanks again for all the consultation. What a great family!

I was going to mension the speedo correction. You may be traveling faster than before the map update. This can generate nice long talks with the MAN!( trust me on this one)
-
Bifgime, my speedo is now within 1 mph of what my gps says. I am learning that there is no fudge factor! So far no performance awards...fingers crossed. Now in Fallon NV.
-
I'm seeing similar results as your last ones Peter on my heavily loaded Stelvio using John's map.
-
Setting the TPS voltage is one of the parameters on the Guzzidiag reprogram software.
Does unhooking the battery allow this to be wiped out and "re-learned" to some other setting by the bike's ECU?????
-
I put my factory map in for the cross country trip. While not nearly as smooth as John's map, I did it to get my best fuel mileage. I averaged 42 mpg and that included hours at 80 and 90 at times.
At some points, as high as 51.1 mpg.
As you can see, the bike was pretty loaded too.
