Sue Ellen and I are going. Riding the Harley, she is very comfortable on it so... 'nough said.
After the gathering we will head to P.E.I. for a three days or so... back home through Québéc just to do it...
Should be a great ride.
Best,
Rob

It will be a nice break from the 95d weather in the Hudson Valley.

The right thing for Larry to do is to refund everyone's registration fee.

What happened?

Interesting; I was gonna go, but other stuff intervened. That's about 15 km from my sister-in-law's place.

We only made it 300 out of the 1000 miles to the campout when my universal joint decided to explode near the border, ending our trek to NS. The word on the street hints that might not have been so horrible after all. My sources indicate the host demonstrated zero tolerance for folks cracking a cold one after riding hundreds if not thousands of miles to attend his party. I suspect Wild Bill is being as diplo as he can

A dry rally? Wouldn't happen in Ontario.

I've never been to one.... :boozing:

A dry rally? Wouldn't happen in Ontario.
People tend to not say too much about a "failed" rally. I remember the one in Western New York 10 or more years ago; there were hints that the rally fund had disappeared with no results, but there wasn't a lot of discussion about it. I suppose that reticence was in the interest of "peace in the family", which is no bad thing.
But speaking as someone who has helped at rallies, and especially at BSA rallies, I'd be interested in hearing what didn't seem right to people ....

No beer? In Nova Scotia???

Other than the original post at the beginning of this thread and a listing in the MGNOC events, the links below are all I was able to find out about this event beforehand. I'm sorry it didn't work out and I'm sorry for the organizer, who most likely tried his best and spent lots of time and resources on this.
But, I was sceptical from the beginning. Was this for real or just a guy's hope and wish? Was he being realistic? Was the MGNOC really endorsing this? Were they supporting or helping the organizer with planning? It looked like just one guy doing it all, not a group or organization or club. Had he co-opted the local tourism promotion folks? There were contradictions and confusion about what the event was called, either the Nova Scotia Biker Rally or the Moto Guzzi Nova Scotia Campout; its purpose, intention, and target audience was confusing (Moto Guzzistti or All Makes and Models or the General Public).
There are very, very, very few Moto Guzzi bikes in the Maritime Provinces, so was this a 'get us some tourist money' opportunity from the local municipality's point of view? Was this a Moto Guzzi Rally or an open-to-everyone-and-any-bike event like the Wharf Rat Rally in Digby. http://www.wharfratrally.com If so, how could little Nova Scotia expect to host two major bike events a month apart? This was certainly ambiguous. And is this really happening at somebody's private property rather than a campground or public venue?
It just didn't make any sense. I might have planned to drop in for a look if I did not have to work that weekend, but I wasn't sure what to expect - certainly not lots of Moto Guzzi's, although a few (very few) on WildGuzzi were planning to attend - maybe a lot of other brands of cruisers. And that list of activities and the off-site music at a pub not connected to the rally... Well, it just didn't sound right at all, a bit on the wrong side of a good-intentions-set-to-fail-but-not-a-scam sort of thing.
Too bad, really. I'd welcome - and attend - a Moto Guzzi event nearby if I could; it would be nice to meet some of you in person. Maybe someday I'll make it to New England's get together. And if any of you are passing through, you're welcome to visit! No fees and there's always beer in the fridge!

Stephen, where are you located in NS.I'm in Saint John NB and have family in the "Valley",there aren't many here either,4 I know of in the area, you'd think with G Bourques only 140 kms away there would be more.I got busy and never made it there but have been to the national last year in N.H.good time and lots of knowledgeable people,if you get the chance take it

Hi, Green1. We live 30 km south of Halifax on St. Margaret's Bay, about half way between Halifax and Chester. We make day trips or weekenders to the Annapolis Valley by cutting through from Chester Basin or Liverpool, or via Windsor - one way over and another way back, making detours on the side roads (It can take us forever to get anywhere!).
I'd like to get to the New England rally some time, but I need work and all the rest of life to co-operate, which it never seems to do! And I'd have to give up some of my detour habit.
I rarely see a Moto Guzzi here - other than my own. The last time I was through Moncton (May, I think) I dropped in to G. Bourque and there were none on the showroom floor. I wonder if they will remain an active MG dealer.
Give me a holler if you're going to be nearby.
Stephen
