Title: Take the Guzzi to work day
Post by: Guzzistajohn on July 12, 2016, 06:53:55 PM
I'm not a motorcycle commuter. I would rather ride in more pleasurable surroundings like in the boondocks. But the Tacoma is in the shop.

Ran through two showers in my 15 mile commute but got the old gal indoor parking. She's right at home in the elevator shop

Work?   Commute?   What quaint concepts.

Wait, I sort of remember that, from some time back, but the memory is fading, fading .....

I ride the Strada to work everyday.  Parking is 25yds. from my desk and is in plain view.  Fortunately it's faster to work on the bike than driving a car.  The clothes have to be different though.

You just keep on working hard, and commuting, and paying your 6.2% of your check into that big ol' pyramid scheme that I'm drawing from, and maybe I'll look at that raunchy and unjustified thang ... !

You try not only feeding them but putting gas in his car.

Jack the Border Collie OWNS the back seat of the Subaru. If you want to disappoint this poor dog, just you go and get in the car without the clear signs that hes coming with you!

His job is to keep his Border Collie Eye on the oncoming traffic, and keep it on them until they are past us .

But then he realized WHAT? This was just a Photo Op? Were not riding anywhere? Well, thats not very nice. I think Ill just lay here in case you change your mind .

I ride my Eldorado to work everyday I can.  My only regret is I only have to drive 5.9 miles to work.

I ride a couple days a week to work.  Monday is car day and I bring in the suits, Friday is car day and I take 'em home. I usually cage it one other day depending on the weather.  This week's forecast is 69F for the low and 105 as the high and 0% chance of rain.  44 miles each way, afternoon's can be a bit brutal.  The last 4 miles or so are through town and it can get a bit warm sitting at your third stop light!

That's everyday.

It starts in spring, as soon as the roads are ice-free... temps around -10.

It ends in fall, when the ice sticks... temps around -10.

About 20 miles each way.

We often go down the road with the windows open and Jack in the back.

Unless we come to a stop, he has NO interest in putting his head out the window.   Jack is a Border Collie, not a dog.   There's a difference!

Once we start moving, he snaps into position in the middle of the seat (as in the first pic), and stares intently out the windshield, without moving.

When he sees a car coming in the opposite direction, he lowers his head an inch or two and follows the car with his eyes.   As it passes us, his head goes around to follow it, then pops back into "guard" position waiting for the next car.  He will do this as long as we are on a two-lane road, no matter how many cars there are.  That's his job, to keep an eye on the other cars.  Every Border Collie has to have a job, or they get neurotic and invent one that you won't like.

When we get onto a four-lane road, he lays down and goes to sleep until he senses we're back on a two-lane road, then it's back up with the intent stare.

He traveled with Fay from Virginia out to Denver and back to see me a couple years ago; he's a great rider and companion.

Yup.   If you're a bloodhound, everything's a trail.  If you're a Jack Russell, everything's a dangerous critter in a burrow.  If you're a Labrador, everything's a duck.  And if you're a Border Collie, everything's a herd!

Glad to see my Guzzi content thread morphed into a dog thread :thumb:

If you are a varmint in a standard schnauzers domain, you're life is about to become pure hell!

My dogs have treed three groundhogs, killed others, caught squirrels to the point where they won't even come near, caught rabbits possums, and one skunk. I found out the hard way what takes skunk smell out of a dogs coat. If it's sprayed in June, it's July, August and September

Most of the roadkill I saw/smelled on the way to John Day was 6 skunks.  Phew!  1 raccoon, 1 deer and some assorted small grease spots that I couldn't figure out.

They do.  Taste like chicken.......shred ded meat is shredded meat.  Doesn't make a difference where the protein is sourced.  The dogs are raised as livestock not pets.  Other cultures do the same.  Hawaiians brought dogs over to be raised with pigs to be livestock.  The evolved to have no bark and were vegetarians.

No.  He wouldn't.

Yoda actually responded to Luke's "I don't believe it" after Yoda lifts the X-wing out of the swamp by saying "That is why you fail."

Damn, man, it's actually in the movie in those words.  Try to keep up in the back there, it's only 30 some years ago ....

I would too, but the OP took it straight to Schnauzers, and off it went .....

97 degrees and constant thunderstorms here today, commuters on bikes are going to need a change of clothes.   Even if you wear protective gear (Aerostich, etc), you're going to be a sweaty wreck underneath it.   Takes a committed commuter to ride through this.   I WAS one once, I know how it is and you need to be ready!
