Title: Norge Transmission Oil Question - which is Gear Box vs. Rear Drive Oil?
Post by: PJPR01 on July 15, 2016, 08:17:39 PM
My book has 2 listings in the back for fluids, it has listed as Transmission Oil on page 146 of the manual

Agip MP 80W/90 and Agip  MP/S 85W/90

Then on page 134 it says:

Capacity Gear Box Oil - 500 cc
Capacity Rear Drive Oil Fluid - 380 cc

No where in the book does it tell me whether the Gear Box is the 80w/90 or vice versa.

and just to make it even more entertaining...on page 101, it calls the Rear Drive Oil by a different name...Universal Joint Oil...

At this rate, I'm going to have to give my Norge 3 names and it will probably come to all 3!! Mamma mia...

Since I'm doing the fluid changes myself this time, thought I'd double check here which is which...and would it really make a difference to put 80/90 in where 85/90 is called for...I'm guessing yes, given the very small volume required...

Thanks in advance

 Paul , I do believe the transmission is the gearbox . We had a long discussion about this recently , seems Roper advised 75/90 synthetic in both .

Yeah...but it lists 2 Transmissions...so which one is which?

I have one Transmission which I would believe is the gearbox...

I have another Transmission which is known by either the name of Rear Drive or Universal Joint...

So I've already bought 2 bottles of 80/90...but I Presume the MP/S means Synthetic for S or something else?

Thanks again...I'll go hunt down Pete's thread and see if it clears things up...

 Okay...Gearbox= Gearbox. (Six Speed)
            Transmission= Rear Drive
   Both units will take the same oil However  Synthetic is recommended in the rear drive. Quantities are as listed.

Thanks Paul...but there in lies the problem as both are listed on page 146 as Transmission, safe to assume then if I put Synthetic 80/90 in both the real gear box and in the rear drive, all is fine then.

I'm going to go through this @ 6,000 miles (this fall). Also it will be my first valve check. Had the dealer do the 1,000 mile first service.
