I'm swapping license plates and need to remove a stripped bolt. Anyone use dremel tools for this? Any concerns about sparks so far away from the tank? No open fuel canisters in the garage, I'll be wearing face and hand protection. Anything else to look out for? Thanks for fielding this basic question.

should be ok, Id cover the bike with a sheet, Id use a reinforced cutter wheel, you can get a thinner cut with the non-reinforced wheel but they are very fragile.

You might want to Tape up any bits that the sparks produced will hit, Rags socked in water are Good protection too. hold the screw head with a pair of vice-grips if you have them

I don't think a dremel is going to produce enough swarf to amount to anything. I'd slot a piece of cardboard to tuck around it if you're concerned, but I wouldn't get real meticulous about it.

Tape works too if'n you don't have cardboard. Let the wheel do the work. Don't put too much pressure on it while cutting.

Much appreciated!

If you can get one of those suits the army uses when disarming I.E.D.s , wear that.
And give the fire department a heads up before you begin.

wear safety glasses! my nephew is an eye doc.. once a week he has to pull some metal swarf out of someones eyeball.

A soft small dia. bolt like that you should be able to just lock onto it it on both sides with vise grips and twist it in half.

Slip a piece of that thin metallic-faced insulation around the workspace - it's cheap and works great as a spark/swarf shield.
