Hello to you all.
I purchased my 1200 4v Stelvio last week. Always wanted one and now I have one. Rode her home the 30 miles and all good. Went to start her a few days later and non start/clicking from relays under fairing. Removed the relays, gave them a tap and started ok.
However, since then the headlamps don't work low beam or high beam. Sidelights do, and weirdly if I press the blue "pass" button, one of the high beam does!
I am not an electrician and need your help. Has anyone come across this problem before

One of the really "stupid-Guzzi" items, one of those times when the designers were channelling Jethro Bodine (along with the starting circuit and the ungreased bearings) is the fact that the '09 Stelvio headlights are not powered through relays. All the current for the filaments goes through a tiny plastic handlebar switch.
Possible that your H4 plastic connectors behind the headlight have come loose or melted (mine did - just a little corrosion generates a little heat, a little melting, and off they come), or that the switch has gone bad (as mine did when I tried to use two high-beams a la Canadian-spec models and the switch melted) ....

Sounds like a fuse to me.
Check the fuse panel on under the fairing on the right side.

Well, actually, there is a relay, sort of.
Not a ground since power from the passing light works.
You do know that the lights only come on AFTER the motor is running. There is logic that fires a relay, AFTER the motor starts. That power then goes to the headlight and headlight switch. The passing switch bypasses the motor logic relay.
So the motor isn't running, or that relay failed, or on down the line the switch may have failed.

Well yes, there IS the "motor-running" logic in back of it all. But from there, all the juice for the headlights has to go through the handlebar switch. Jurassic dinosaurs knew not to do something silly like that, but did Guzzi learn? Nooooooo .....

Lights do not come on after engine running
Have checked fuses under faring and the 2 big ones under seatr, all ok
But as I say, engine running, press the pass switch and one bulb lights up

Is it charging? Have you checked the fuses under the panel beneath the seat on the RH side?

When the engine starts, the logic fires a relay. I would check the relays. I think it is under the cover in the right hand side of the fairing. R1 on the schematic.
It looks like that same relay feeds the alternator field, so it may not be charging either.
That relay contact is powered by the 30 amp fuse that was mentioned.
The coil is fed by the dashboard, and a 15 amp fuse.

Ok. This is where I am at
I have checked the fuses on the front where the 3 relays are. They are all ok
I have swapped the 2 front relays as they are the same. still no headlamps.
There is no fuse box behind the right panel under the seat
I have check the 30/40amp fuses under the seat. both ok
I have replaced the bulbs and still the same.
The volts show 12.4 when the engine is running.

Volts should show 13.5 or more when the engine is running. Showing 12.4 volts means that the battery is supplying current all by itself with no help from the alternator ... Per OMG, sounds like relay R1 is shot ...

Is that using the meter on the dash? If that is a REAL meter, then you are not charging either. If that is the dash meter, does it drop a little when running versus key on? If so, again, you are not charging.

That comes from a 30 amp fuse near the battery. That fuse is NOT under the cover, like in the newer models. It also feeds the socket under the seat/toolbox. So if the socket is dead, check that fuse, cable. If the socket has power, go to the relay.

Now ordered the R1 Relay. It's a PA66-GF25
Should be here Tuesday. Let's see if this works

If you are not charging, a common malady is that the spade on the bottom of the 30 amp fuse under the seat has been pushed off the back of the block. It can look okay, but you'll find if you push on the wire on the back of the block it will fully engage. It's happened to me a couple of times when I was screwing around under the seat.
It can happen just by pushing down on that 30 amp fuse. Make sure when pushing down on that fuse, to hold the bottom wires so that it doesn't push the wire off the terminal end.
You'll know right away because the lights should come on and the battery should start charging vigorously.

Did you ever check for voltage at the socket in the toolkit? That should prove that the 30 amp fuse and fuse holder is good.

Relay arrived today, fitted and she's all good. 14v on running. Been out for a ride and feels just fine.
