Title: Does your bike remind you it's Italian too?
Post by: Doppelgaenger on July 30, 2016, 12:11:29 PM
So, last night I was riding just after sunset, I went down a fun downhill road that is around here, but for some reason when I let off the gas before a turn, the bike decided it didn't want to deliver fuel anymore. I opened the throttle and it would make more noise and go faster because of less engine braking, but it wouldn't actually deliver any power at all. After about 10 seconds the engine suddenly ran real rough and then quit. And in their infinite wisdom, moto guzzi designed the B11 with lights that go out when the engine dies. Then I realized how dark it was... I thumbed the starter, she started right back up and made power like normal and continued on as if nothing had happened.

I also had the engine die on me a year earlier. I came to a stop sign and the engine slowly chugged to a stop. It never actually conked out either, it was the smoothest engine shutdown I've ever felt.

I know that this is just part of guzzi character, and I can't be the only one. Does your Guzzi do strange things to remind you that it's italian too?

Not part of my Guzzi's "character" even though the two currently on the road are 45 and 47 years old. Neither does anything strange, both are like the Energizer Bunny.

I have a Plymouth minivan that behaved like that when it had a failing fuel pump.

I had something similar happen on my b1100 about a month ago.  Started it up, dropped in gear turned throttle and it would bog down.  It didn't die, but it wouldn't take/get any more fuel to start moving.   I was in my drive way, (how convient!)  It would just go enough to move slowly while I pumped the throttle.   I shut it off, waited twenty seconds, hit start, and it has run perfectly ever since.
