what headlight did you have to use for the euro install?
-
A V50/ SP1000 to my knowledge ( 7 inch CEV Black headlamp, no thick rubber gasket between bezel ring and bucket). In a previous post I had posted the link of the current available new part from Stein Dinse, but it only comes in chrome so a used one may be a better bet

Beautiful bikes. Must be tough deciding which to ride. :bike-037:

Did you buy yours from Stein Dinse or were you able to get one from a North American source?
I would like to find one form my 77 LeMans
Thanks
Jim

Stein Dinse's current offering is only available in chrome: http://www.stein-dinse.biz/Complete-partlist/Unsorted/Headlight-M-GT-1000S-165mm-chrome-with-fault::211075.html. Finding a used part maybe your other option ( Harpers, TLM , etc)

If that's the correct bucket but in chrome it might be worth de-chroming and painting black.
-
De-chroming? Dis-chroming? Un-chroming? You could retain the chrome, paint it black, and if you ever have to part out the bike that part could be marketed as "chrome option blacked".
-
Paint isn't a big fan of chrome. Maybe if you a ruffed it up good and proper with a scotchbrite pad. Good and proper.

Agree with swooshdave
I had a bucket which was chromed and wanted to go to powder, although the coater roughened as best he could, the PC eventually started to flake
De-chroming is the sensible option if you want a long term solution. I'd also consider getting the bucket powder coated rather than paint, as its tougher
Just my experience

Powdercoat might be overkill for a headlight bucket.
