Can't help it, I can't help but be even more amazed at the 220 MPH LSR runs of a Triumph with a SINGLE 650 Triumph engine that originally set the records .....

Saw the BUB streamliner that did 350 at the cycleworld show right after they set the record. Dennis Manning chatted with us quit a while, proud papa that he was of the record '

Add another 100 some odd MPH and they will be near the record

Sorry, I'm not that impressed. It's not a real motorcycle, at least in my mind. It has two turbo charged car motors, and out-rigers, with a completely enclosed cockpit. To me thats more like an wingless airplane.

OK so you go build or ride something that will go that fast

Oops! MISTAKE! Dissent from the prevailing opinion isn't encouraged. If your opinion is that it's not a real motorcycle, then you are, by extension, insulting the people who built it and hurting the feelings of anyone who thinks it IS a motorcycle.
Why can't you just be nice by keeping your Dissenting Opinion to yourself? :boxing: :copcar: :thewife: :violent1: :whip2:
Because tolerance.

So Lannis , are you gonna build a vehicle capable of this kind of speed , or volunteer to operate it ? Just curious .

No, I'm not. Does that mean that I can't have an opinion about the motorcycle in the picture without getting a snotty response?
AND if I were a moderator, I wouldn't be making snide, leading remarks to other posters of this sort until it escalates, and then start a post with "Now, fellas" .... to put the fire out after you've set it. The previous comments and opinions addressed the MOTORCYCLE ... you're attacking the POSTER. Exactly the sort of thing a moderator is supposed to prevent.
And when you're called on it, say "Take it up with Luap. I didn't ask for this job, he appointed me ...." to justify that sort of behavior.
I'm amazed that a guy as "sensitive" as you can't see what you're doing ....

So this is really about my performance , why didn't you just say so ? Hell , I'm pretty sure Chad understood my comment , guess maybe you didn't . Once again , feel free to take it up with the boss .

You guys misunderstood , I was really hoping someone else was gonna build an LSR bike so I could say "I'm not impressed" just my opinion you know

274 mph.........another 100 mph and they'll be close to the record they're trying to break(376+ mph).
-
I love that stuff - the stream-liners, not the arguments. :boxing:

Sometime I have to call BS on some of the things you see online.... This Kawasaki H2R supposedly goes 400 kph (248 mph) with no streamlining and the rider hanging out in the breeze but the Rocket streamliner only goes 278? You know... I can reprogram the ECU on my Speed Triple and make the speedo error show 300 mph. They should have that H2R officially clocked.

I knew someone that was working on a Rocket for a LSR and they would only let him take baby steps so that he and his bike proved to be safe. I think on his first run they only let him go 110 mph. I do that sometimes merging onto the interstate. (This was the ECTA).
This is all good fun and advertising for Triumph. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday...
-
Hey......my Strada goes indicated 10mph with the engine off and on the kickstand. How's that for speed?

my comment was meant to say, "perhaps you and Lannis are taking this a smidgen too seriously." But it was late and I was drinking........... ......the devil made me write it.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/14/us/bonneville-danny-thompson-speed-record/
Danny Thompson breaks a speed record in his dad's car.
402 mph.
Not sure what class. I don't believe it is an overall record.

At the `01 MGNOC National Rally nearby Bub Mufflers in Grass Valley, Ca. you could see the Bub land speed record bike @ their muffler shop. In `99 they were going to take it to Australia to test it because the salt was too rough for driving that year @ Bonneville salt flats. They made their LSR racer short enough to fit in a std. container so they could ship it over via ship if needed. Their whole motor was custom made for them, not a MC motor revised for that speed contest.
-
These are just the shakedown runs. I think they will take the record when they are ready to give it a shot. The worlds fastest ever car, Thrust SSC needed a few warmup runs as well.

Seems the significance is that Mickey's boy took his dad's old chassis and made two runs instead of the one Mickey managed . The wheel driven official record is 437 and some change .

Or this lump....Two 750 Royal Enfields on 90 percent nitromethane was the first bare frame motorcycle in LSR history to break 200 MPH in... 1970...The bike behind him was the Martinez/McEvoy double engine Triumph 750 on dope that went one MPH faster! And about the same time this Sportster went about 204 MPH....

Go Triumph!
Geezers of WG, disappointed.
-
They say running over that salt creates some real drag compared to going over concrete like on an airstrip runway.

That, and the altitude.
At least, those are the excuses that people use when they tell me that their Triumph Bonneville used to run 135 MPH on the local straight, and I point out that the Land Speed Record for their bike is something like 119 ..... !

Yep , and while those old pushrod lumps were pretty amazing , this new Rocket 6 is shooting for something approaching 380 MPH . I don't care what you do to a Meriden Triumph or R.E. Interceptor motor , they won't make the kind of HP it takes to run that fast . Well , maybe ten of them linked together , but I think we can all see the packaging issues involved there
