Yeah......I remember that. I was not associated in any way, but I think I have one of the post cards in the drawer somewhere. I think if you sent them some change to help they sent the postcard as thank you. Like the image in the article, the bike on the flats with the balloon in the background....beat those darn Harleys!!!

I still have my Land Speed Record T -shirt.

Note: Sidney Conn was heavily involved in this project. Now his son is a principal in the Motus motorcycle company. Something about motorcycles and speed in that family.

I did consider loaning them my Le Mans V 1000 when they were looking.

I remember the HD team crying foul cause Mitch had a 50# weight advantage.

I thought the Motus Sidney Conn is the same guy who was in this Guzzi LSR attempt.

I remember it ......pretty sure I donated some spare parts to the project....it was a very cool project.

That used to be my bike. I bought it second hand from the Guzzi dealer in Menasha, WI, Marshall Elmer. I put about 35,000 miles on it until one fateful night I was riding home from Milwaukee and I fell asleep at 65mph. Into the deep ditch we went. I was fortunate that all I hit was ground. Still broke a few bones. Insurance totaled it and Sydney bought it. When I found out Sydney bought it I rode to NC to meet him and give him the original owners manual and a printout of a dyno run I did at the sport bike rally in Canada. I now live in FL, still ride Guzzi, and still, occationally share an e-mail with Sydney.

No, Sidney's "kid" is Lee Conn. http://www.motusmotorcycles.com/story

I talked to Lee about that very subject when introduced to him on the tour w/prototypes at their dealers. All down to earth Guzzi folks.
-
I got my Andy Warhol moment when Cycle World Magazine did a 2 page spread for their Bonneville article overlooking the bike's tank. It happened to be an angle that showed my name prominently. I couldn't believe how many people mentioned seeing it.
-
Funny, I was thinking about Walter the other day. Whatever happened to him?
-
In the spring of '02 MGNA had an open house in Lillington where Sidney had the Goose on display. That bike played music to my ears.
-
I still have my a ' my heart goes where the wild goose goes' shirt.
All I put in was money. it was a neat experience to ba a part of!

Moto Guzzi still has quite a few records at Bonneville as of 2015: http://nebula.wsimg.com/3af91c9b4ddae148a42c365cdd8badb2?AccessKeyId=1B489604A3781742F233&disposition=0&alloworigin=1
From what I can tell not any from FIM. http://www.fim-live.com/en/sport/sport/world-records-attempts/
I think there are other speed record organizations.

I wonder what the new 1400 engine would do in a streamliner?

Considering it's 14ft wide I"m not sure you could streamline it. :whip2:

It WOULD be a fat guy going down for the run.

The classification would be the "unlimited red suspenders division".
