Title: Triumph Bonneville....great year for sales.
Post by: zedXmick on August 30, 2016, 06:30:21 PM
Well,I knew the new water cooled line up of Bonneville's would be a hit,but they hit it outa the ballpark. I just spent a rainy afternoon at Triumph of Janesville,WI and Brian informed me they sold out of all their street twins.(900cc) Sold out all their Thruxton model (1200cc) They are down to one T120 (all black) and one Silver Thruxton R    The  T-120 is beautiful and the Silver Thruxton R  is perfect. Got the hear'em run,but no test rides due to the rain. Pictures don't do the R any justice....in person its like looking at rolling art...perfect lines... Even with the rain out it was a perfect afternoon.

I was at my Triumph dealer last week. The first time I saw a Thruxton R in the flesh. I assumed they would be larger than the 900s but saw they were the same size, almost tiny. Very tempting but I see it as only a play bike, not something I would want to ride cross country.

I test rode a thruxton at my local dealer
I bought it
Rode300 miles + the first day
Mine has a small flyscreen and saddlebags
It's much more comfortable than my 05 Thruxton, which I'm keeping
I'm67 years old and it's an all day bike for me
I'll ride my Tiger on longer trips
Just got back from a 3000 mile tour of some southern states
Great roads but boy it was hot

I looked at the Street Twin, T120, and Thruxton, was quite impressed, although I did not ride them.
The look and quality seems very nice. It's hard to believe they're made in Thailand (or am I mistaken?)

I believe they are, the air cooled ones were. I rode a T120, was very impressed.

I saw the Thruxton R a while back. Very impressive in person. Alas, no test ride. I couldn't afford it. :D

The factory in Thailand is maybe the most modern MC factory in the world , why wouldn't their product be amazing ?

the best designs are worthless if the factory can't execute. The best factory can't build great products if the design and engineering are not up to snuff.  Looks like Triumph got both right.

A couple years ago, I looked at a Thai-made Triumph and a Stelvio side by side. While the Triumph was well made, I was not impressed by the amount of lumpiness and irregularity in the welds. They didn't look flawed, just - not as nice.
