I will post some pictures later but those of you that have done this will know what I am asking...
I am working on a 74 Eldo I just picked up and have loosened the clamp ring that holds the carbs (Delorto VHB 29s) onto the intake stack. One I can barely rotate and was not able to make progress towards it''s removal. The other I stopped screwing with until I can get some recommendations on how to get these loosened up without hurting them or myself.
Thanks

I use a hardwood dowel - place it up against the carb body (at the inlet, not up against the square section or anywhere else) and bonk it with a hammer. Alternate between the top and bottom, driving it off of the manifold a little at a time.
Apply a little anti-seize on the plastic sleeve in the carb and on the manifold stub before installing. That'll make it much easier to remove next time.

One thing not mentioned. Rotate the carb so the fuel bowl sits a bit outward. If you don't, one or both will hit the trans/engine case before sliding off if I remember correctly.
Another option when you install them, good old white lithium grease works fine. Just wipe a bit in the carb side them slide over the manifold. Just use enough to wet the surface.

I've just taken mine off complete with the intake. I started hitting it like Charlie said but didn't want to end up pounding it with a club hammer and the veins sticking out on my forehead!
